lizziebelle: (OMG ONOZ)
[personal profile] lizziebelle
My brakes failed this morning. I mean, completely failed, pedal to the floor, no slowing down failed. Fortunately I was going slowly, and the hand brake was able to stop the car, and no one was right in front of me, and a dozen other things that could've made it so much worse. Skipping to the end: it's getting fixed, I have a rental car, and nobody (and nothing) was hurt. Truly, I am counting my blessings.

But. It's going to cost a lot of money to fix, and I just started this new job, and it's going to wipe me out. An angel asked how donations could be made, so here is a link to PayPal if you feel so inclined (and now you know my full name! Elizabeth is my middle name). I would be extremely grateful, and I promise to pay it forward when I am able to.

Tonight is the longest night, and after tomorrow the light will return. Contemplating all the meanings of that this Solstice eve.

Glad that you are alright and you remembered the hand brake.

Thanks! I'm pretty proud that I didn't panic, and I thought of that. I guess I'm better in a crisis than I thought I'd be!

Thank you. Yes, I'm so very glad it wasn't worse. It was more inconvenience than crisis.

It was surreal. Everything and nothing like I'd seen in films. I'm just happy I held it together enough to not panic!

Well done on not panicking! That must have been terrifying. I'm so glad you were OK and no one was hurt and no damage done.

I'm still amazed it went as well as it did. The best possible outcome. I panicked *afterward* when I was safe.

That happened to me once - at 16.5 just after getting my license, driving my mother to a wedding in Western MA. After we got off the Pike she insisted I continue to drive using the emergency brake (foot pedal on a Galaxie 500!) to follow the groomsmen to the wedding site, because I had just finished driving school!
