There is still some color left, but more and more trees are bare now, ready for winter. I'm trying to get out every day to enjoy what's left of autumn before it's all gone.

I went to see "Doctor Strange" on Thursday night. They had a secret screening a day early, so I got to beat the weekend crowds. I absolutely loved it! I had high expectations, and they weren't let down. I even didn't mind (much) that Benedict had an American accent in it. He was fantastic, just perfect for that role. Everyone in it was great. I will probably see it again in the theatre, and buy it when it comes out on DVD. Such a treat, especially after being disappointed in the last couple of Marvel movies.

I start a new job on Monday, and I'm both nervous and excited. It's for a web services company, which is right up my alley (much more so than the last couple of gigs). I worked really hard to get it, too; in addition to the phone and in-person interviews, I had to do a couple of test calls so they could hear my phone manner and pitch style. I really hope this works out, because the company sounds awesome.

I am attempting to do NaNoWriMo again this year. I haven't had a lot of words yet, but I'm pretty happy with what's come out of me so far. I've had a couple of fun ideas about how to structure the story, partially inspired by a classic of horror literature that has come up repeatedly in the last month or so. Figuring out how to work it all in has been a fun challenge.

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Not a lot has been going on around here lately, but autumn continues to be beautiful, so I'll share some more of it with you.

oh, the lovely colors! )

We had some very intense weather the other night, wild thunderstorms and heavy rain & wind. Dark and stormy night, indeed. We even had a flash flood warning! I was very glad to be on the second floor (first floor, for you Brits). I was worried we'd lose power, but we only had a couple of flickers. Not everyone was so lucky!

Today is very windy, and much cooler, but sunny. The light coming in the north-west side of the house is orange from the maple tree out back.

A lot of you live in places where you don't have autumn like we do in New England. Here you go.

Autumn in New England )

It's been deliciously cool, and mostly sunny and nice. I love this time of year! This is the best time to live here.

Autumn has arrived in New England. Trees are starting to turn colorful. Although, with this drought, they'll probably not be as colorful as usual this year. But at least it's cooler, and there is rain this week.

reservoir overlook on the rail trail

I went farther into the Marlborough end of the rail trail the other day, and found this fabulous lookout over the reservoir. I'll have to go back up there when the trees are more autumnal.

a touch of color along the river

This is another shot I need to go recreate when autumn is further along. I love living near the river.

It's October in New England, and you know what that means.

Glorious, glorious color.

We actually have a frost advisory this weekend, which means even more glorious color.

I intend to enjoy every second of it, because before long, the trees will be bare.

Right now, they are absolutely stunning. I plan to go out again tomorrow to capture more of it!

I took a walk along the river today, and the dying of the season really hit me for the first time this year. Samhain is only days away, and I heard voices in the wind as it passed through the almost-bare trees. I couldn't quite make out what they were saying, but the voices were sad at times, almost moaning. Other times, they could have been crows' calls carried from far away, or perhaps a crowd cheering a ballgame, or children playing. But I knew they were none of those things.

Further along the trail, the tattoo a woodpecker played was a lively rhythm that echoed through the trees. Perhaps it was a message in its own version of Morse code: tap, tap-tap, tap-tap-tap, tap. Winter is coming.

Walking back home, I looked at the red leaves on the young oaks by the road, and remembered their debut as tiny leaflets seemingly just weeks ago. Was spring really that far back? It didn't seem possible. And yet spring seems a lifetime away now.

The land is readying for its long sleep when it will rest, and dream, before its renewal. The wind carries its lament along with the seeds it scatters and buries amongst the leaves, knowing that it brings about that renewal. Sweet dreams, Persephone, see you in the spring.

you can't see me, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

Yesterday was such a gorgeous day, I just had to get outside. I took a walk along the river path, where this chipmunk thought I couldn't see him. Hee hee!

We are definitely past peak color, but it's still pretty out there.

Autumn by the river

My boss was giving movie passes last week as an end-of-the-month incentive, and I ended up with four of them, so I invited some friends to come with me to see 'Gravity" this afternoon. Wow, what an amazing movie! It really felt like we were in space. So intense. This was definitely worth seeing in the theatre, and in 3D. The fact that it co-stars my future husband was just icing on the cake. Sandra Bullock is so good in this film. Highly recommended!

We're a bit past peak color now, but the trees are still putting on a show. Today was bright and sunny, so I went over to Gates Pond to capture some of that glory.

It sure is pretty. Driving around, catching sight of a tree in full color is just breathtaking.

The forecast for the coming week is rather chilly, so I decided today would be a good day to finally take the a/c unit out of the window. My landlord, who happened to be here raking leaves, helped me take it down to the basement. I also put down the storm windows, as it's been a bit drafty even with the windows closed. It's nice and cozy in here now.

I was planning on going to a cookout at a friend's place yesterday, but as the morning wore on I felt worse and worse. Headache and a slightly upset tummy. So I went back to bed and actually slept for a couple hours. Feeling better today, thank goodness. Just a one-day thing. I wish it hadn't been on a day I had plans, though!

getting colorful, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

I finally had a really good week at work, sales-wise. I was getting worried, actually, because my sales were way down (as were everyone else's). I needed to have a good week. Not only can I breathe a sigh of relief, but it's energizing. Instead of dreading tomorrow, I'm looking forward to jumping back in.

It's been a rather dreary weekend, which is disappointing because the trees are rather colorful right now. We're a week or two from peak color, but there's a lot of red, orange and gold out there right now. I went for a walk yesterday and snapped a few shots, but they'd look a lot better if the sun had been shining.

Next weekend, I will be in the Berkshires with a bunch of my honeys. Jay will be visiting while he's on break from touring with Wicked, and he's rented a house for the week and invited all and sundry to come hang out. It will be great to see him, and hang out with the gang. It will probably be peak color up there in the hills. I hope we get some sunshine!

I took a walk in the woods at Heritage Park on my lunch hour, where it was mostly brown and grey, punctuated by bits of bright orange. What little color is left really stands out in the mostly bare woods.

It's been a very slow and boring day so far, but as a friend pointed out on Facebook, boring is better than a lot of things. And she's right.

October rose, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

I made it out while the sun was still shining, which it presently is not. Just a couple of days ago, it was warm & muggy; today it was cool enough for fleece. It's true what they say about New England weather: if you don't like it, wait a minute.

autumn loveliness )

The sky clouded up on my walk home, and my sinuses started making my head feel like a bowling ball. As the medicine which helps that makes me totally doped up, I do believe I will not be driving anywhere tonight. Which makes me sad, as it is the coven Samhain. I will have to settle for being there in spirit.

If you are celebrating tonight, I hope you have a lovely festival. Perhaps we will see each other on the astral. :)

October Triptych, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

I took a third photo at that spot down the street this morning, just as the fog was lifting and the sun was coming out. I made a triptych of them, which nicely shows the progression of autumn here. They were each taken 10 days apart. In another ten days, all will be bare.

Omigosh, today was just gorgeous. If I have to take furlough days, I don't mind them so much on days like today. It was in the 70's, and I took two long walks to enjoy the autumn splendor.

It's clouding up now, but I still have the windows open and it feels so nice. I hope you all had a swell day, too!

I just love ferns. These were growing out of the wall of that crypt in the cemetery.

I took a pic at this same spot on the 8th, which you can see here. It was just starting to get a little color then; now it is ripe and colorful. :)
