me, reflected, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

I'm not sure how it happened, but I turned fifty today. I could swear I just turned thirty, but there you go. Twenty years just flew by.

Actually, I'm rather glad to be out of my forties. That was not my best decade, by a long shot. Well, it really was my worst decade. Glad I got that out of the way. Now I can move on, and be fabulously fifty.

Of course, it helps that I don't look my age, and lord knows I don't act it. But I think my generation is much younger than my parents' generation at the same age. I'd like to think we're redefining aging. Or refusing to grow up, take your pick. *g*

I had thought of doing a few things today, but it was hot, and I didn't. I did go for a walk, and I found a bridge over the pond behind Grandmothers' Garden, where I took the above picture. And there was exactly one ripe blackberry, so I ate it. It pays to look under the leaves. :)

I might go out for ice cream later; there's a nice little ice cream place about a half-mile walk from here. The kind of place that has a sliding window on the outside, and they hand you a pile of napkins with your cone. I can sit looking down into the valley, and think about having made it to fifty. :)

apple blossoms, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

I took advantage of the sunshine after work and walked down to Grandmothers' Garden to see what was in bloom.

Lots of things! )

The other day I felt a cold coming on, complete with post-nasal drip. I slept poorly that night, and felt crummy all day yesterday. I went to bed at 9:00 last night and slept almost through the night, getting up once to go to the bathroom and then falling back asleep, miraculously. Feeling much better today, thank goodness. With all the stress of the past few weeks, and the thousands of germs I'm sure I was exposed to last weekend, it's no wonder I came down with something. I'm really glad I have no plans for the weekend, because I don't think I'd have the energy for anything.

I took a walk after work, because I was completely stressed out. The green, growing, and flowering things at Grandmothers' Garden helped a little.

Friends who care and who offer to help are even better therapy. I should remember to reach out to friends more often; I tend to go inward, and that's not a good thing. It's always good when I reach out and there are hands to grasp onto. It beats stewing away in my cave any day.

Thanks for all the good thoughts, hugs, and encouragement. I'm not out of the woods quite yet, but I'm on the path.

A lovely, sunshiny start to spring today! Lots of crocuses spreading cheer all over the place.

My neighbor's daffodils are just starting to bloom.

Down at Grandmothers' Garden, the tulips are pushing up through the leaf litter.

I sorted through all my photos (that was quite the job!) and found the pile that I had snitched from mom at Christmas, and scanned in a ton of them. I made a set of all the old family photos, which you can see here. My mom was quite the shutterbug; I'm sure I get it from her! :)

Did everybody get a chance to see the moon last night? Wasn't she beautiful?

Blessed Ostara/Happy Spring!

The lovely sunshine coaxed me out of the house this afternoon. I wandered over to Grandmothers' Garden, where everything is still covered in snow. Last year at this time, green things were poking out of the ground.

Once and future garden... )

I then wandered downtown, where I saw the strangest thing. I had to cross the street and get a picture.

We come in peace... )

The icy stretches of the sidewalks were most annoying, but in places where the ice and snow were melting, lovely patterns were revealed.

Three weeks until the Spring Equinox.

What a beautiful day. And I only had to work until noon! Woo hoo. It was so sunny and (almost) warm, I went out in layers of fleece instead of wrapped head to toe as usual.

I walked down to Grandmothers' Garden, because that's where I wanted to take the final photo in the series. It's mostly bare, but there are a few gems left.

The problem is, I can't decide! So I want you to decide for me. Which pic should be #365?

Which one should it be?

The forecast called for driving rain all day, so I was surprised to find that it wasn't raining late this morning. As it continued not to rain, I figured I ought to get outside while I could, and walked down to Grandmothers' Garden to see if the witch hazel was blooming. It was.

I walked down to my polling place to vote in the primary this morning. As it is across the street from Grandmothers' Garden, I popped over there to look at dewy flowers and herbs.

Most of the races were uncontested. The only one I wasn't sure of was D.A. I don't really like any of them, but then they're all lawyers. *g*

It was a gorgeous day, and I just got back from another walk. It's so wonderful to have the windows wide open!

The heat is back ('though not the humidity, thank goodness), so I spent most of today indoors (see previous entry). I needed to get outside though, so I went for a walk down to Grandmothers' Garden after supper. I found this kitty on the way.

today's finds )

I'm watching the Emmys tonight, because I'm apparently a masochist, but I heard that my honey is getting a special award or something. Also to root for LOST. I doubt I'll make it to the end, though. *yawn*

mmm, basil, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

We're back to the hot and sticky weather. Oh, joy. I had to get out for a walk, though, so I went over to Grandmothers' Garden, where the basil is thriving. Yum. I was tempted to snitch some for pesto, but I picked only one leaf and smelled it the whole way home. Gosh I love the smell of basil. :9
