As usual, we've gone straight from cold to hot. Last week I was wearing hoodies, this week I'm digging for summer clothing and installing my a/c unit. It's supposed to hit 90° today. I got an air quality alert on my phone, even. Oy. At least it's supposed to cool down again by next week.

I went to the Arnold Arboretum the other day to enjoy the lilacs at their peak. A lot of other people had the same idea! They actually cancelled Lilac Sunday this year because the weather was rainy & windy; it didn't end up as stormy as forecast, but it still wouldn't have been a fun day for festivities.

The lilacs were, as always, spectacular. I also took in the shrub & vine garden, and the bonsai collection. Bonsai! )

Even the birds love the lilacs.

I'm glad I made it there before it got too hot out.

I wanted to see (and smell!) the lilacs at the Arnold Arboretum before they were gone, so on Friday I headed over there, joined by my friend W, who lives not far from me. It wasn't the sunniest of days, but it was pretty nice, and the lilacs were amazing as always.

I can still smell them... )

It was a fun excursion. I don't miss living in the city, but I do miss being near the Arboretum.

The lilacs, like everything else, are a little late this year. Today is Lilac Sunday at the Arnold Arboretum, but as I prefer to avoid crowds, I planned a visit for yesterday instead. I invited everyone and anyone to come along, but the only ones who were able to make it were Peg, Ken, and Ken's sister Carol. The rain ended, the sun eventually came out, and the lilacs were glorious!

My favorites, the deep purple lilacs, weren't quite ready to bloom yet. But there were plenty of lilac, pink, and white blooms perfuming the air with their intoxicating scent.

There were lots of other lovelies as well. You can click the arrows on the pix to scroll through the lot of them!

I ended up going to the Arboretum this morning, and it was wonderful. The weather was great: warm, sunny, beautiful. The lilacs (and everything else) were amazing. The place was packed with people of all stripes enjoying the lilac loveliness. As soon as I came around the corner the scent hit me, and it was intoxicating.

OMG, look at the lilacs! )

The variety was as dizzying as the scent. What a wonderful place. I used to live about a mile from there. On days like this, I do miss living there.

I then went to visit mum, and Willow dropped in to see me. My sister is mad at me for not going to Willow's presentation at church; oh, well. It was worth it to see those lilacs. :)

Another cold, windy day today. I guess this is our payment for such a nice March, and most of April! They assure us that it will be nice again for the weekend, which I hope is true. It's Beltane!

Mum is trying to get me to go to church with them on Sunday, because my niece is doing a presentation on Disney Princesses (how most of them are strong women), but I had really wanted to get to the Arboretum on Sunday morning before I went over to visit. It's been a while since I've been there, and it's one of my favorite places. I want to support Willow, but the call of the trees is strong. Argh.

One of my coworkers brought me a bunch of lilacs this morning, and the office smelled wonderful all day. I do love lilacs!

This evening, I will be plopped in front of the telly watching David Tennant and Patrick Stewart in Hamlet. Not my favorite of the Bard's plays, but it's the one we read in English class in high school. And who can resist the Doctor and Captain Picard? Not I.

I was going to post these on my photo blog, but since I have so many lilac lovers on my f-list, I thought I'd post them here. Enjoy!

lots more lilacs! )

We started hearing thunder at about 4:30 this afternoon, and it started raining at about 10 of 5. Just as I was clocking out, it started pouring. It's clearing up now, but those of you to the east should be hearing it soon!
