kitties in a window, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

Yarrrrr, it be Talk Like a Pirate Day! The scallywags be havin' a good time with it over at Facebook today. It's also my cousin's birthday, which I don't think is a coincidence. *g*

I walked down to CVS this morning, because I got a gift card from one of the polling places I belong to. On the way, I saw these sweet kitties sleeping in a shop window. They were curled up together next to an empty cat bed. :)

It has now clouded over, and I'm scrubbing the poop deck doing laundry and continuing my decluttering campaign. Not very exciting for a pirate, I know.

Arrrrrrr.

I tried taking a nap today, because I was up at the crack of dawn as usual, but my mother called, and then the landscaper came with his noisy lawnmower, and I just gave up and went for a walk.

Autumn arrives by the calendar on Tuesday, and it's starting to show its face around the neighborhood already. It's going to get down into the thirties tonight, so I bet we'll have a lot more color in a few days.

here's what I found today )

One of the best things about living in New England is all the maple trees, especially this time of year. I'm hoping that we get good color this year; last year was a bit disappointing.

For those of you not on Facebook, my cousin (the one who lost her husband last week) had her baby on Thursday. Sophia Rose is healthy and beautiful. Rose was her grandmother's name. My cousin is doing as well as can be expected, and is very happy to have Sophia with her. So are we.

Sorry I'm too brain-dead to come up with something clever for Talk Like a Pirate Day, but perhaps later on I'll drink some rum and pop in Pirates of the Caribbean or something. *g*

It's so wonderful to finally have a President who has an actual sense of humor! They took this photo for the Correspondents dinner, to illustrate his statement, "But as I said during the campaign, we can't just talk to our friends. As hard as it is, we also have to talk to our enemies, and I've begun to do exactly that." The 'pirate' is speechwriter Cody Keenan.

I wonder if they'll celebrate Talk Like a Pirate Day at the White House? *g*

Facebook talks like a pirate! If you go down to the bottom of the page and click English (US), a box pops up that allows you to choose English (Pirate). Then, everything is in Pirate Speak! It's high-larious! Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] zarq for the heads-up. :)

Must pack this evening for Beltane: I'm heading over to East Bridgewater tomorrow after work to sleep over and go to the maypole-on-the-Charles eeeeeearly Friday morning. Must remember flower garland. And possibly an umbrella. Cross your fingers that it doesn't rain! Who else is going to be there? Anyone? Bueller?

But first, cookies. Fresh from the oven.

Avast! It's once again International Talk Like a Pirate Day! I've already alerted the crew, I mean the coworkers. They would be disappointed, I think, if I didn't. *g*

Shiver me timbers, it's a lovely day for piratin' as well. I'll have to go looking for plunder at lunchtime.

Yo Ho, Yo Ho, a Pirate's Life for Me )

Last night's Pirate Adventure was a blast! A bunch of us dressed up (Nancy here went all out) and everybody had a good time. The movie was fun, if a bit overlong & bloated in spots, but we all got into the swashbuckling spirit and enjoyed it.

I had headed over to [livejournal.com profile] ami_1's place after work, where we had pizza and lounged on the deck before the skeeters chased us back inside. It was a short hop over to the theatre, where the crew from The Reminder were already set up with the treasure chest full of pirate booty. Even the publisher put on a kerchief, and thanked everyone for coming before the movie started.

We didn't stay through the credits (even though I'd heard there was an Easter egg) because, well, nature was calling, and it was getting late. Did I mention that it's a long movie? It's looooong. But worth seeing if you enjoyed the first two. Just don't get a large drink. ;)

I survived the sales meeting this morning, and it was indeed the shortest sales meeting ever. Just about ten minutes. We got everything done that we needed to, I gave out lots of coins (Pirate booty!), and everybody was happy. I did most of it, only because Barb left all the stuff on my desk, and Kim was happy to let me do it. We were done by 9:15.

Tonight is the Pirate movie in South Hadley, and two of my three friends who said they'd come have bailed on me. One because she forgot that she was teaching a meditation class tonight, and the other because she has to get ready for a new roommate who's moving in. Well, poo! At least [livejournal.com profile] ami_1 is faithful. :)

Tired, tired, tired. So glad that this is a three-day weekend. I plan (hope) to sleep. I went to bed early last night, and I'm still tired. I wonder if it's an allergy thing; I've been a bit congested & sneezy, but not overly affected by all the pollen in the air. Last week was worse. *shrug*

We're having a cookout today with all the leftovers from the last one. It's one of the reporters' last day, so it'll be a nice sendoff for her. I brought cookies.

I'm also going to try to get to the movies this weekend. I still haven't seen the new Spider-Man. I think I'll wait for Pirates... that one's going to be crazy this weekend.

I got George Clooney *and* Hugh Jackman in the mail yesterday; it's amazing how they fit in those little red envelopes! *g* I'll be spending the weekend with them. Mmmmmmmm-hmmmmm....
