I went out last night with some girlfriends, for the first time in ages. I really should do that more often. My typical Saturday night is spent in front of the telly or with my nose in a book.

We started out at the Rail Trail Flatbread Pizza place, which I hadn't been to yet. It's a popular spot, and is credited with beginning the revival of downtown Hudson. We ended up not getting pizza, but instead nibbled on appetizers and sipped lovely craft cocktails and cider. There was much giggling, and two of our lot explaining how to brew hard cider at home to the waitress was very entertaining. I'm pretty sure she's going to give it a try.

We then crossed the street to New City Microcreamery, which is owned by the Rail Trail folks. Instead of getting in line for ice cream, however, we headed to the back and flicked on a light switch by a door. A little door in the wall popped open, a man asked us how many, and then closed again. Then the door opened and we were ushered in, past a black velvet curtain, to an authentic-looking speakeasy. Lots of dark wood, low lighting, and U-shaped booths lined the long, narrow place. We ordered more apps and craft cocktails, and enjoyed the ambiance. I had a frozen grasshopper, half dessert and half cocktail. All delicious.

They made it like New City makes their ice cream: with liquid nitrogen. While waiting for the restroom, I watched the bartender make another frozen drink in the KitchenAid mixer; fog billowed out of the bowl while the mixer whirled. It was really cool, both literally and figuratively. Next time, I want to try the frozen Old Fashioned.

Next Saturday, I'm planning to go into Boston for the Women's March. D.C. is not doable for me, but a bunch of local friends are planning to go, so we'll all take the train in together. I want there to be a huge turnout, everywhere there is a March happening. This is historic. We can't let the Nazis get away with it. Yes, IMO it's that dire. The stuff that the GOP is pulling is positively fascist. I cannot understand how anyone could vote for any of them. I truly fear the ending of our Union as we know it.

Before the revolution, however, I'm really looking forward to the season finale of Sherlock. OMG this season has been intense! I will likely go see it again in the theatre this week. Such an amazing show.

How was your weekend?

I finally accumulated enough points at the survey place to get another Amazon gift card, so I treated myself to seasons 2 & 3 of Sherlock. It was a much better choice than the orange Moleskine notebook I was looking at.

I also remembered who I had lent season 1 to, and it's on its way back to me now. So my house will be full of Sherlocky goodness. I seriously love that show. Although, I did find the final episode of season 3 a bit baffling, and not up to par with the first two episodes. But still way better than most other shows.

Happy Valentine's Day to me. :)

We had some unexpected snow this weekend. When I watched the forecast yesterday morning, they were calling for maybe an inch of wet snow. A couple hours later, huge flakes started falling (and sticking). I moved my car to the front of the driveway just in case, and took a walk over to the river to take snow pictures. By the time I got back, we had over an inch already. By late in the afternoon, we had over 4" and it was still coming down. I cleared off the deck, stairs, and car, and went back up for some hot chocolate. When the plow guy got here, I went back down to move my car for him, and hoped we wouldn't get much more.

This morning, it started snowing again. We got maybe another inch before the sky cleared and the sun came out. It was gorgeous! I walked down to the park, where a couple kids were sledding down the hill there. Everything sparkled in the sunshine.

I didn't really mind the snow this time, because I didn't have anywhere I had to go. I was able to get out walking, and it wasn't a huge chore to shovel. If only all our snow events were so convenient.

I'm glad we have tomorrow off, so I can get my errands done. And tonight is the premiere of Sherlock series three! I'm ever so excited. I've managed to stay relatively spoiler-free.

A year ago today, I was in New York, getting my tattoo. Hard to believe that was a whole year ago!

I had another gift certificate for Amazon from another one of the survey places I belong to, so I treated myself to this:

(Oops, LJ decided to show that pic sideways. Oh, well!)

I loved, loved, loved this when I saw it on PBS, and I decided it was the sort of thing I could watch several times. Plus, bonus features. Plus, Benedict Cumberbatch, who has the best name in show business. (My brother calls him Bendersnatch Cummerbund *g*) It's the little things that make me happy. :D

We were busy today, for the first time in weeks. A lot of folks getting ads in for tornado cleanup. I'm glad they're getting work, but the reason is not the best. I had one customer choke up today when he was telling me about his storm experience. He lives in Monson, which is one of the hardest-hit towns. His home and family are OK, but several of his neighbors lost virtually everything, including another customer of mine. Houses, trees, barns, sheds, equipment... just gone. This will be a big part of their lives for a long time to come. Thank goodness more people weren't hurt. Houses can be rebuilt.

So glad it's the weekend. It was a long week, and next week will seem even longer because my coworker will be on vacation. I may need some entertainment to get through those long days by myself!
