I'm home today, on one of my involuntary days off, and I'm watching the inauguration festivities on the telly. The excitement of the crowd really comes through, and I'm so proud to be an American today. That's not something I've been able to say much for the past few years. I love my country; more specifically, I love this land, and I love the spirit of the people who have shaped this nation. I was a teenager during the bicentennial, and I remember the atmosphere of patriotism that permeated the country then. That's not something we've felt since, I don't think. Our standing as a nation has fallen considerably in the past eight years, and I feel a change in the air.
I'm so glad I'm here to see this. In a few minutes, the road back will have begun.
