made it through the storm

new bridge, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

Irene had mostly petered out by the time it got to us, but we had a lot of water upstream, which caused a dam to give way. I walked down to the river this afternoon after the rain had stopped and the wind had died down a bit, and was blown away at how high the water was.

So was everybody else; there were dozens of people along the dike, and at least two news crews.

everybody came to look at the river

My mother called me as I was walking along the river, and said she had seen a reporter from channel 5 (Boston) broadcasting from this bridge. I hadn't seen them, but I saw the local news van when I walked back.

From there, I walked down to the Little River, which was also really high.

I've never seen either river this high before. They were evacuating streets down by the big river, and towns upstream are dealing with flooded roads.

I was very lucky not to lose power. I saw a lot of leaves and small to medium branches down, and a couple of larger limbs, but no trees down in my neighborhood.

I hear there is a lot of flooding in New Jersey, and the Catskills in NY. My cousin in PA has a lot of water in her yard, too. Friends in VT had flooding as well. We were very lucky.
