censorship ahead of the RNC

I learned, on a photography blog of all places, that they're censoring some billboards in St. Paul ahead of the Republican National Convention.

"On August 8, CBS Outdoor signed a contract to post five billboards showing portraits of volunteer US soldiers taken by New York photographer Suzanne Opton. In the portraits, the soldiers, men and women, look dazed, confused and even traumatized — they had just returned from war in Afghanistan or Iraq, and were scheduled to go back to war in a few days.

Just days before the billboards were supposed to go up, however, the contract got cancelled — with little chance that Opton can find alternative public space to display her simple and poignant message."

I really hope that word gets out about their tactics, and this opens peoples' eyes to the prevailing regime, and what we can expect if it's extended.

I expect to be in St. Paul for part of Monday, engaging in some minor protesting. No violence, no civil disobedience, though.

The cops have been conducting raids on places like "Food Not Bombs." Big threats to public safety, they are. We'd all be better off if they'd lock up GWB and his cronies for 1087050165 years.

Be careful! I've been reading account of police in riot gear storming homes of "suspected protesters". What is this, Bulgaria in 1974? The Soviet Union? China?!?!
