moving on

I put out a plea on Facebook the other day for someone to take me car shopping, and my friend Pam answered the call. We went to a place I found on the BBB website (natch) that is nearby.

The sales guy was very nice and went over my financials to see what I could afford. Turns out my credit isn't as bad as I thought it was, which is good. Then we started looking at vehicles. I would really like another Hyundai, as the Elantra lasted me 14 years, but I was open to other things. I drove an '08 Elantra that I loved, but turned out to be out of my price range. Then I drove a Dodge Status that I didn't like much, 'though it was pretty and a nice color. I was going to try another Elantra but he couldn't get it started, which was not a good sign. One of the cars he mentioned was a Santa Fe, which I wanted to try, but it was at another location. When I asked where, he said it was Shrewsbury, where we were going to be headed anyway, so we headed that way, stopping at my house to pick up my laundry, which Pam generously offered to let me do at her house.

The Santa Fe seemed to be having trouble with a locked brake, which put the kibosh on driving it yesterday, but I really liked it otherwise, and a locked brake is easily fixed, especially since it could have been from the cold (it was very cold and very windy yesterday). So I will call the Marlboro office today and see if they can get it over there and looked at, so I can go over and drive it, and perhaps even buy it. I did like it rather a lot. But I don't want to get my hopes up too high for fear of having them dashed down, so I'm in wait-and-see mode. But with fingers crossed. ;)

Then we stopped at Five Guys because I promised to buy lunch, and by then we were starving. It was my first time there, and I give it a thumbs-up. Tasty burger, and the small fries were too much for the two of us to finish. Go there with an appetite!

We stopped at Trader Joe's to pick up a few things afterward, and as I was checking out, the cashier handed me a bunch of roses and said, "Happy Valentine's Day!" They were giving out all the leftovers. What a nice surprise!

At Pam's, I did a couple loads of laundry while her dog repeatedly tried to climb on top of me and kiss me. We potted up a few plant cuttings she had for me, so now I have green growing things in my apartment! And I have clean laundry, and fresh food, and the prospect of a new(er) car. So huge thanks to Pam.

It was a very long day, and I actually was still asleep when my mom called me at about 8:30 this morning, which is highly unusual. I'm usually up at the crack of dawn, or before. I guess I needed it!

It's beautifully sunny out this morning, and not so windy, so I'll get out and have a nice walk sometime today.

My landlady's handyman, Steve, was over here the other day, and we had a nice conversation about lots of things, including connecting to places. Steve is Pagan, and he used to live in my apartment. I think that's why I liked the energy of this place so much. Anyhoo, he was telling me about the places he goes to connect to nature, and I was telling him about the places I've been going, but that I hadn't found a place I really connected to yet. And right there I realized it was because I hadn't let go of my connections to the places I used to go, especially the woods & river at Stanley Park. That was the place I went when I needed to connect, to find peace, to get away from the stresses of my life. And I never had a chance to say good-bye, to thank the trees and the river for their companionship, to let go. I still get a twinge in my heart when I come across a picture I took there, or when Stanley Park posts pictures on Facebook. I miss that place. And I have to let it go. Someday I'll be able to go there again and formally do it, but I must perform some sort of ritual to allow me to let go of my connection there. It's time to move on.

Okay, you do research on the BBB website? I fully understand why we're friends :). BBB is also a great way to get results when you have a consumer complaint.

*Crosses fingers* I hope you find a car that you like and that "suits" you :). Maybe Marlboro will come through...? It sounds like you're doing your research, which is awesome; did you use Carfax? We used it before getting our "new" used Corolla, and it was incredibly helpful; some dealerships offer it free of charge.

Congratulations on getting to Five Guys :). Some of the locations allow you to order online or via a smart phone app; [livejournal.com profile] tranari used to be fairly well-known at the North Dartmouth site because he frequently placed orders online. My favorite Five Guys "delicacy?" A cheese dog with relish, jalapenos, and onions; I also like the spicy Cajun fries.

I hope you can find a way to keep Stanley Park in your heart in a way that will not cause you pain or hold you back. If you find a ritual that helps you with connections, let me know; I could use the help!

I hope you enjoy your Monday :).

Well, I work at the BBB, so I knew how to look for an accredited business. You just go to their website (bbb.org), put in the type of business you're looking for, and your zip code. It pulls up a list of businesses in their database, accredited and not.

Carfax us a good idea. I'm also hoping my friend who knows about cars can check it out.

I'm planning to put together a little ritual, I'll send it to you once I do. Most times I've moved in the past, I'd already lost my connection to places. This last time though, it happened so quickly and abruptly that I didn't have time, and it didn't happen naturally.
