better than expected

daffy, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

Today turned out much nicer than was forecast, so I had another pleasant walk through the park and woods. And look: daffodils!

Trout lily is coming up all over the place.

As is false hellebore.

The swan, who I've decided is named "Sweetie," was preening her feathers by the path.

Nearby, the geese were cooling their feet in the stream.

Found my first johnny jump-up of the spring, near where I found the hyacinth yesterday.

I was seriously happy to see the daffodils. There will be lots more soon.

It's just now starting to cloud over. I'm so glad it waited to do that!

Spring flowers! Love the swan "Sweetie" and the row of geese in the stream. Looks like it was a fun day for all involved :~)

They'll be blooming before you know it. :)

'Johnny Jump-up!' I've heard pansies called many things, but that's a new one!!

And the false hellebore is very, very strange...

Johnny jump-ups are smaller than pansies, about the size of violets. :)

They're like our heartsease, which is a wild pansy...

Aha! According to Wikipedia, they are the same thing, and also called Viola. :)

'Little cat's faces' is another term that springs to mind...

I've tried to rehabilitate homeless heartsease from various spoil heaps on various excavations I've been on, but it's never worked:-(
