more cygnet fluffiness

fuzz heads, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

At last, sunshine! I love how it makes the little fluffballs glow. Mummy and Daddy were taking the tykes out for a walk on the lawn, and they let me get quite close. The babies kept running into mummy's shade, so it was hard to get a pic of them all in the sun (and pointing in my direction). This one was my favorite, just for the pose.

I promise I won't be all-cygnets-all-the-time, but I am a little taken with them. I feel like a proud auntie. *g*

Sounds like Mom and Dad are getting used to your presense.

Oh, I've been taking pictures of them for years. They've just never had babies around before. :)

It's amazing they let you get that close. We have Canada geese nesting near us every year, and they are violently protective of their goslings. I've learned their threat gesture quite well: they make their necks snakelike and bob their heads up and down, and sometimes resort to an open-mouthed hiss!

Oh yes, I've been hissed at by geese. I just tell them that they don't intimidate me, and the goslings just ignore me. ;)

This is why I never understood the Ugly Duckling. Cygnets are soooo cute!

I know! Ducklings must be racist. ;)

I'm sorry to hear about the lost cygnet. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't a snapping turtle taking up residence in the lake.

There are snappers in the area. :(
