Safe at home
Dec. 26th, 2004 04:47 pmWillow was thrilled with the ceramic flat iron. I am the best auntie ever! She wanted to try it right then! Kathy wouldn't let her. I can't wait to see her with straight hair! I hope Kathy tries it, too. I've never seen her with straight hair. She fought it when we were kids, but finally came to accept it in her 20s. I like her curls, they suit her.
Mom was thrilled with the gift I gave her: a bunch of fun food items like hot chili oil, Thai marinade, chestnut cream, and some other stuff. She loves to cook almost as much as she loves to eat!
Kathy liked her John Lennon book, and the dragonfly necklace I made for her. I'm glad I was able to give things that they liked. It's tough when you're broke! I hit the jackpot with the book; it was a review copy that came into the paper, and I asked the editor if I could have it when they were done with it. She said sure! Kathy is a huge Beatles fan, and Lennon in particular.
After Willow went off with her father yesterday, Kathy & I went off to the movies. Mom bowed out; she's still recovering from a busy week at the bakery and having bronchitis last week. We wanted to see "The Incredibles," but the paper said it started at 2:20 and when we got to the theater, at 2:05, the marquee said it started at 1:50. Phooey! So after a bit of hemming & hawing, we decided on "The Aviator," which is about Howard Hughes. It was a little too long, but really good. I am amazed at how good Leonardo di Caprio was! I had no idea that he was that good an actor. I took him for a teen idol, having seen him only in "Titanic," which I thought was overblown, and "Catch Me If You Can," which I thought was unworthy of Spielberg. Look at me, armchair critic!
After the movie, I headed out to East Bridgewater to the annual soiree at the ever-lovely home of dalbino83, textiletart, and spinningwheels. I'm always grateful for the respite of hanging out with friends after all the hectic and stressful family doings. The Yankee Swap was a hoot, as usual, and I ended up with a cool pizza cutter, which I needed anyway. The food and drink was terrific, and spinningwheels made his famous homemade eggnog (you can find the recipe on his LJ; look in my Friends page). (Sorry, I haven't figured out how to make links yet!)
After the Swap, I was hanging out (and snuggling) with Richard, Berta & Cheryl. That was nice. I love having friends that I can snuggle up with! Puppy piles are so comforting. We were making plans for camp next summer, talking about turning the tipi into a snuggle zone. Kind of like the yurt used to be. I like it! We need to have a tipi party, like the yurt parties we used to have. I miss the yurt, and even more I miss Miklos! He needs to come back to us.
I stayed overnight, and was up at the crack of dawn today as usual. And it was snowing! It wasn't supposed to start until tonight! After fretting for a bit, I decided to head out. I left a note for my gracious hosts, and hit the road. By the time I got to route 95, the snow was mostly gone, and before long the roads were clear. I stopped at the Dunkin Donuts on the Pike for a breakfast sandwich and decaf, and got home around 10:30. I called them to let them know I got home, and then called Mom because I know she worries. Made myself some hot cocoa, took a hot shower, and took a nap. It started snowing here, but only a dusting so far. I don't think they're expecting much, but then it wasn't supposed to snow at all here, so what do they know? They're always wrong anyway! ;)
I'm happy to be back home, the craziness all behind me and a day off ahead of me.
