I was taking a walk along the river path today when I stopped to watch a wee chickadee to see if he'd stop long enough for me to take his portrait. He hopped down into the little stream I was standing over, and proceeded to take a bath. I snapped a couple of shots, then took a little video of him splashing about.

He was so cute! I was so pleased to capture this.

I won tickets to see a private performance by Billy Idol at the Foundation Room in Boston, part of the House of Blues, through my favorite radio station this week. I invited my friend Michelle to be my plus one, and today we headed into Boston and had an amazing afternoon.

There were probably 75-100 folks there for the show. The room is quite small, and decked out in couches and coffee tables, chairs, and a really great old carved wood and stamped metal bar. It's a really cool place, with lots of interesting details scattered around.

Billy and Steve Stevens, his guitarist, did an interview first with the host, one of the DJs from the radio station. Then they started playing, and did not disappoint! They sang six songs, all acoustic, and all awesome. "To be a lover" is now my fave song of his, I have to say. Wow.

The pictures didn't come out great, because the lighting was not very good in there, but I don't care. The show was wonderful. Billy still has it. His voice is as great as ever, and I never realized how amazing a guitarist Steve is.

After the show, they lined us up to get our pictures taken with him. They put us in groups of six, and said no selfies or signing anything. In & out. But I turned to Billy and took his hand, told him that it was a great show, I loved his book, and he's a really good writer. His face lit up, he smiled, and said "Thank you!" That just made my day. My week. Oh hell, my month. Billy Idol looking me in the eyes and smiling will always be a high point of my life. I've been a fan since the early 80's.

I've been bursting into spontaneous giggles ever since I got the email telling me I'd won the tickets. I'm still giddy. What a wonderful experience. I don't go to a lot of shows, and I don't like big crowds, so this was just perfect. There aren't a lot of famous people I'd really care to meet, but I'm so glad I met Billy and got to tell him I'm a fan.

I went for a walk over by the river this afternoon, hoping to get some nice foliage pictures. I stopped at a favorite spot, and there was a whole family of swans just across the water from me!

I snapped a bunch of photos, and then I noticed a great blue heron a little farther down. Score! I usually scare him away. I took a short video of him stalking along the riverbank, and after much tinkering finally figured out how to upload the darn thing to YouTube.

You can hear a chipmunk yelling at me in the background. *g*

It turned out to be quite the lovely day, after a frost this morning. Yep, it's October all right.

My paid account here expires tomorrow, and I don't think I'll renew it. I have better things to spend my money on at the moment, like food and bills. I'll have to download all my icons so I don't lose them (again). It's not like I was really using all the features, anyway. I do hope I can figure out how to post from Flickr again, though, because that is just darned annoying.

Nobody wanted to go to the fireworks with me yesterday, so I went by myself. I went down late, and there were still a lot of people walking down Western Ave. I found a perch on the stone fence, and extended my monopod, which I finally found in the Great Cleanout last summer. I took a bunch of shots, a few of which came out pretty well. I even took a short video.

A pack of foul-mouthed teenagers sat near me, and I so wanted to tell the girl on the end that she could do so much better, but I kept my mouth shut and just rolled my eyes in the dark.

The same cheesy oldies band played before the show. I do miss when the symphony used to play.

As I packed up my stuff at the end of the show, I discovered that the lens was stuck in the out position. I stuffed it in my bag to take a look at when I got home. I turned it on ("Lens Error!" it said) and off, took out the batteries and replaced them, pushed on the lens... nothing. I am bereft. I don't know what to do. What am I without a camera? Just before camp, too. I hope I can get it fixed, but I have no idea where or how. This makes me very sad. I wish I hadn't gone last night. :(

give me a ride, mommy!, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

So of course I went back down to the park at lunch, and took a bunch more pictures. Also, I took movies. Watch how these cute little critters follow their mummy around, and one hitches a ride! :D

thunderstorm, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

Another storm cell passed through a while ago. Check out the yellow sky. Right after the storm, it cleared up and we had a nice sunset. It's calm out there now.

I know people deal with this all the time in places like Oklahoma and Kansas, but for Massachusetts, it's pretty bizarre to be contemplating a tornado. Check out the footage of the tornado crossing the Connecticut River. I cross that river every day, but not on that bridge.

Normally, I love thunderstorms. But when there's a tornado warning, and one has already passed through, they're a little unnerving.

I'm just glad to be safe, and all my local friends appear to be as well. That was pretty intense.

hello there, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

Another day, another cat on a porch. This one kept meowing at me, but he wouldn't let me pet him. He didn't run away either, though.

It was cold and grey today, but I had to get out anyway. I found a few bright spots in the gloom.

Also, the cutest video I've seen in a long time: a penguin being tickled! I had no idea they were ticklish, let alone that they giggle. *g*

Such a lovely spring evening it was. Perfect for a long walk down to the park, where the setting sun gilded flowers and the peepers sang.

splash, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

I caught a few seconds of this grackle taking a bath by the pond at lunchtime. There were lots of grackles, robins, and geese hanging out by or in the pond today, perhaps getting a little enjoyment before the snow begins tonight.

I'm kind of afraid to look at a weather forecast. This morning, they still weren't sure what we were going to get. Anything from just rain to a foot of snow.

woods, reflected, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

The water is much higher this week; it must be all that melting snow. There's still some snow and ice in the woods, but it's competing with mud for space now.

The river is quite high, too. rushing waters )

I also found my first crocuses of the year!

I celebrated the super full moon between the frog pond and the peeper pond. Oh! And I heard my first frog of the season! He was croaking away down by the storage yard. Hopefully soon the peepers will start singing. I'll have to go down there near sunset tomorrow. My feet have had quite enough for today.

snowdrops emerging, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

I went down to the park to look for sings of spring, and I found a few. These snowdrops were buried beneath a foot of snow last time I was down there, and in a few days they will have flowers.

The sidewalks are now free of ice and snow, but some of them have large puddles. The paths in the woods are still snow-covered, but mostly packed down enough to walk on. Mostly.

It felt good to be outside and moving around. :)
