Nobody wanted to go to the fireworks with me yesterday, so I went by myself. I went down late, and there were still a lot of people walking down Western Ave. I found a perch on the stone fence, and extended my monopod, which I finally found in the Great Cleanout last summer. I took a bunch of shots, a few of which came out pretty well. I even took a short video.

A pack of foul-mouthed teenagers sat near me, and I so wanted to tell the girl on the end that she could do so much better, but I kept my mouth shut and just rolled my eyes in the dark.

The same cheesy oldies band played before the show. I do miss when the symphony used to play.

As I packed up my stuff at the end of the show, I discovered that the lens was stuck in the out position. I stuffed it in my bag to take a look at when I got home. I turned it on ("Lens Error!" it said) and off, took out the batteries and replaced them, pushed on the lens... nothing. I am bereft. I don't know what to do. What am I without a camera? Just before camp, too. I hope I can get it fixed, but I have no idea where or how. This makes me very sad. I wish I hadn't gone last night. :(

The fireworks were nice: loud, bright, pretty. I really should have had a tripod, but some of the pix came out pretty cool anyway. My camera has a 'fireworks' setting, which keeps the shutter open a couple of seconds.

I also took a video with my iPod for a couple of minutes. I'll upload that on Tuesday.

The crowd seemed a little smaller this year, even though the weather was better. It was still a pretty respectable turnout, though.

The band was one of those cover bands that plays *everything*: the songs you love, the songs you hate, and everything in between. I miss when they had the Symphony instead, but they can't afford it anymore.

I started heading out before they were completely over, and so did a lot of other people. I did manage to beat the throngs, though, and was able to walk on the sidewalk the whole way home.

When I was nearly home, I saw several cop cars heading up toward the park, and I heard more sirens as I was uploading the pix. I hope nobody was hurt; I saw a lot of kids riding their bikes really fast down the street, weaving in and out of cars and people. Without helmets, of course.

Anyhoo, happy fourth! *bang*

The fireworks down the street at Stanley Park this evening were really awesome! I had gone down early to walk around in the woods, where I found some neon orange fungi and a frog in a puddle (pix later - too late tonight to process & upload them). Then I wandered around the rose garden, where I found a pretty green Vespa (and my next door neighbor, who inexplicably asked if it was my boyfriend's. Huh?) parked behind a row of motorcycles. As the sun went down, I wandered over to the field and ran across some friends I hadn't seen in a while, and sat with them since the former coworker I was to meet wasn't answering her phone. We watched the slim crescent moon go down, and chatted while we waited for the main event. All I can say is, Wow! They were among the best fireworks I've ever seen. They went on for a long time, and were really big & loud. It was cool to hear the echoes off the hills. The crowd loved them, cheering at the display. My friend surmised that perhaps they had a surplus, being past the regular fireworks season. It was a lovely night, and I'm glad I went. :)

They're closing down the Star Trek Experience in Vegas! Oh man, what a cool place. I've been there three times, but I never got to do the Borg ride. Bummer. I was hoping to get back there someday.

The PTB bought us pizza for lunch today, which was nice. All I had managed to scrape together this morning was peanut butter and crackers. There was a lovely one called 'Extreme Veggie' (and it was). I'm kinda glad I didn't bother making a more elaborate lunch!

Here's an OMG squee moment: David Cassidy's fan club message! Wow, he was soooo deep! *g* My sister was a Donny Osmond girl, but it was only David for me. He was so dreamy. *g*

They've cancelled the fireworks in Westfield tonight, since the forecast is calling for rain. Unfortunately, it's also supposed to rain on Sunday, which is the rain date. Oh, well.

The classifieds are done. What am I going to do for an hour and a half?
