Yule

Another lovely Yule weekend come and gone. The WoW meet yesterday was fun, with the usual suspects showing up and even a long-lost friend who, it turns out, works at B&N and joined us for a bit. It was nice to reconnect with her; I hadn't seen her since the wedding in May, and before that it was even longer. She kinda chose sides when the schism happened, and I think she regrets it and misses us. Well, we miss her too!

I bought the latest issue of Fairie Magazine, which is a beautiful mag and not at all cheesy as I was afraid it would be. There's a nice interview with Wendy Froud in there, and lots of gorgeous photography.

Cymbri gave me a lovely angel ornament, which was totally unexpected. Too bad I don't have a tree to put it on! Someday I'll have a Yule tree again. Just not in this tiny apartment, where I don't have room for the stuff I already have! Actually, I may take it to work. It would look nice there, and confuse the hell out of my coworkers. Always a bonus.

G~ was telling us about a starling that got into her apartment, and was wondering what it meant. This struck a familiar chord somewhere in my brain: wasn't there a story in the Mabinogian about someone who taught a starling to talk and sent it off for help? This is where we ran into our friend, who helped us find a copy of the Mabinogian and sure enough, there was the story of Branwen. Aha! My brain is full of trivia. I just have trouble sometimes accessing it! Lucky us, needing to find a book when we were in a bookstore. ;)

I left B&N and went to the covenstead for our Yule ritual, which is always a fun one. We all get to be reborn! I got a lovely moon & stars pin in the grab-bag gift exchange, and we all sang "Faunus the Roman Goat God," with one of the words modified for young ears. The feast was yummy, as usual, and we had three little boys (well, four, but one is only 5 weeks old) to entertain us. Several of us stayed overnight, and this morning we had the traditional brunch and gift exchange, with [livejournal.com profile] justjanus reading A Child's Christmas in Wales. I love that part. I always hear bits I don't remember from years past. More people should read aloud.

I got a bamboo fountain and a story about how D ordered me something online, but misunderstood how long it would take to arrive and hence, it's still in the mail system somewhere. :::giggle:::

I had to do laundry this afternoon, what with all my warm socks being dirty, and after I started the load I discovered that one of my quarters was Canadian, and I didn't have a spare. Oops! So I went to the grocery store and picked up a few things, which I had to do anyway, and managed to remember to get quarters. Whew! So now I have clean, warm socks. :)
