I've got the first load of laundry in the washer, and piles of other housework that's been neglected for the past couple of weeks looming over me. Eep! One thing at a time, and eventually I'll dig myself out from the mess. If I think of it as a whole, I will be totally overwhelmed and won't be able to face it. Laundry, I can do, one load at a time. While that's churning away, I can clean the bathroom. Second load, I can do the dishes. Third (and yes, there will be at least that many), I can pick up the living room. Then this place will be much more civilized. :)

I went to bed a bit after nine last night, unable to stay awake for a moment longer. So of course I woke up at about three, and was awake for about an hour, before sleeping again until about eight. I feel so much better this morning than I did yesterday! I was just wiped. Thank the powers-that-be that the holiday was on a Sunday, and I got an extra day to recover!

I was updating my wall calendar, and thinking I had next weekend off (the first in I don't know how many weeks), when I realized that Saturday is my company holiday party. They wanted it on a Saturday, but of course waited too long and missed out on all the ones in December, so this week it is. So far, however, all of February is free, and I am so looking forward to it! I am so far behind on my reading and writing, because I am such a social butterfly and have been booked for months straight. I'm still keeping notes on stories, and composing things in my head all the time, but I need to sit down and write it all out. I'm designating February as my personal writing month. There's not much else to do, right?

They're forecasting another storm, starting late this afternoon and into tomorrow. Maybe I'll get lucky and get snowed in tomorrow.

The fourth (!) load of laundry is in the dryer, the bathroom is clean (even the floor!), the dishes are washed, and I've started on the living room. I feel like I've made a serious dent in the housework deficit. It hasn't started snowing yet, but the sky is looking ominous. I'm glad the laundry will be done before it starts, since I have to go outside to get to the laundry room.

I had a couple of ideas while looking around the living room, deciding what needs to be done. First, I have a ton of magazines that are too nice to just recycle (like Smithsonian and National Geographic), and I was wondering who I could give them to that would put them to good use (school? library?), when it hit me that I work for a newspaper, and I could just put an ad in the 'free giveaways' section and someone who wants them can come and take them away. Am I a genius, or what? I can bag them up and cart them into work, and whoever wants them can come to the office to get them. Yay! One more problem taken care of.

The second thing that hit me is that I need to rearrange my books, and possibly the whole room. But first, the books. I've acquired quite a few since I moved in, and they're stuck in willy-nilly, wherever they fit at the time. Before I can do any of that, though, I need to clean up some of the clutter. I have a couple of totes that I need to finish filling, and stow in the closet. I have to put LoriJoy's cooler, which I still have from camping last July, in my car so I can give it to her next time the coven gets together. If you saw how small my living room was, you'd realize that these things are a serious impediment to getting around. There's a narrow channel through which I can get to the papasan chair, which is my preferred perch for reading and watching TV.

So: I'm not quite done for the day, but I'm more than halfway there. The feeling of accomplishment will be the best reward for a day not wasted!
