It's really nasty out there this morning! I went out and cleaned off my car, strapped myself in, and headed out into the fray. There was already about 3" of snow, and it was coating the windshield as soon as I could clear it off. My drive hadn't been plowed yet, but I made it out onto the street so I thought I'd be OK. The roads are really crappy; not plowed, barely sanded, with deep ruts where previous traffic had passed. I made it about two miles before I turned around (fishtailing like a boat at high speed) and headed back home. Which was uphill. By then, the windshield wipers weren't even clearing the snow and it was difficult to see just where the ruts were. I made it back up the hill, and even made it back into my parking lot. All of this took a good 20-25 minutes, just to go four miles! I called work and left messages for my boss & coworker, letting them know I won't be there this morning. Hopefully they will actually plow the roads later and I can make it in, but until they do I ain't going anywhere!

Jan. 23rd, 2006 01:55 pmWell, I never did make it into work today. The plow guy didn't get here until noonish, so by the time I could've gotten to work (assuming the roads were in any shape to drive on), it wouldn't have been worth it. Thank goodness I have personal time I can take, so I don't have to lose a day's pay like I did when I was in retail. They don't pay for sick days in retail.
It's finally stopped snowing, so maybe I'll try and go outside later. If, that is, the sidewalks are cleared.
