May. 31st, 2007 03:30 pmFor a while, it was getting quite dark out, and it looked like those predicted thunderstorms were headed our way. Now, however, it seems to be brightening up, and perhaps they will pass us by after all.
It occurs to me that this is also a metaphor for the storm on LJ the past couple of days, when it looked like the sky was falling and everyone would be jumping ship. Today, though, there is an apology of sorts, and it seems like maybe the storm will pass. I have to admit that I was pretty much unaffected by the whole debacle, being neither a reader nor a writer of fanfic; but the way it was handled, and the way it affected several folks on my f-list, was pretty alarming. It says a lot about how this society has become oversensitive to perceived threats, and how a few self-righteous people can get everyone else in an uproar. I wonder where they got the idea?
