freedom!

I have today off, which feels sooooo good. I slept until nearly 8:00, which was a treat. I'm heading off to Midas to (hopefully) get my muffler fixed... the Pirate Hyundai has been sounding more like a tank lately. I'm hoping it doesn't cost too much, otherwise I'll be eating a lot of ramen noodles in the near future. I swear the universe has it out for me, never letting me catch up! *sigh*

At least it's not precipitating, and it's actually going to be in the 40s today. I'll bring my book and my camera, and hang out, perhaps walk down to the river and see how high the water is.

My car is fixed, and she purrs like a kitten again instead of growling like a mountain lion. A prehistoric mountain lion, with a frog in its throat.

My bank account is considerably lighter. *sigh*

My mechanic, however, is a sweetheart. He gave me a ride home (because it was going to take quite a while to fix) and picked me up, and gave me a purple lollipop as a belated Valentine. He also topped off the oil, which was low, and made me promise to get my tire checked (he noticed it was worn on one side). Nice kid. He should be; I probably paid his salary for the week and then some!

While I was waiting for the car to be fixed, I went for a walk down to Stanley Park. The pic is of a cool ice-covered bole on the Enchanted Tree, for which I left a gift of candy hearts. Follow the link for more, including evidence of an industrious woodpecker.

A small birch tree at the entrance to the forest garden went down during the last storm, alas. It was very sad to see it laying across the path.

I think I'll go read for a while, losing myself in Dandelion Wine and not thinking about how I'm going to pay the bills this month.
