arcadian adventure
Sep. 1st, 2008 05:38 pmI had a lovely walk down to Stanley Park and the wildlife sanctuary today. It was so much better than being at work! The park was crowded, but the woods were nice & cool, and mostly deserted. I ran into a few people walking their dogs or biking, but for the most part I was kept company by birds and butterflies, and the occasional grasshopper.
There are a few signs of impending autumn: the occasional red leaf, acorns littering the path, goldenrod in profusion. It occurred to me as I was walking that it's as green as it's going to get this year; from now on, the wood will become less green on its way to winter. Soon, the trees will burst with color, leaves dying in a blaze of glory. Then, they will litter the ground, becoming mulch and fertilizer.
For now, though, they are green and alive, and beautiful.
