car trouble

My car started hesitating while I was on the way to work this morning, and the check engine light came on, and I started panicking. I begged and pleaded with my car to at least get me to work (I was a little more than halfway here, and on a highway headed toward a bridge), and she did, bless her. I called my mechanic, who is near the office, and he said to bring her over. I did at lunchtime, and walked back (it's only about a quarter mile) to work off some of my nervous energy. So now, I wait for the call. Please cross your fingers, light a candle, send good vibes that it's something really simple and inexpensive, and something he can fix this afternoon! I'll be in deep doodoo if it's not. Thanks!

OK, the mechanic just called me, and things could be a lot worse. It seems to be an oil leak that's affecting one of the plugs, causing a misfire. So, car won't go 'splody, or leave me stranded along the highway, it'll just cough a bit now & then until Thursday, when he can fix it. I also have to come up with $250 to fix it, which I might be able to borrow from Mum.

So the upshot is: I can drive it until it gets fixed; it's nothing dangerous or major; I'm not stranded in East Longmeadow. Also, I'm off tomorrow, so that's one less day of driving.
