Tiger, doubled, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

While much of the east coast is running around like Chicken Little, I've been calmly readying myself for the hurricane that's set to barrel right through my part of the state on Sunday. Of course, the track may diverge wildly from predictions by then, but it doesn't hurt to be ready. I have food, emergency lighting (candles, propane lantern, oil lamps), water, and plenty to keep me occupied whether we lose power or not.

I stopped at the store on the way home for a few things I needed anyway. It wasn't too crazy; a bit busier than usual, but not pandemonium like I'd expected.

Tomorrow morning, I plan to head down to the library to pick up the book I requested (The Magician King by Lev Grossman) and to Mama Cakes for cupcakes. Perhaps a swing by the liquor store for some wine. Perhaps not. I'll decide tomorrow.

I had some fun today posting lists on Tumblr for getting ready. A little serious, a little fun.

Honestly, I'm not worried. I've lived through (driven through, once) hurricanes, and I don't live anywhere near the shore. I'm not taking it lightly though, either. I'm prepared. I live on high ground in a one-story brick dwelling a short walk from downtown (stores, hospital, etc.). My phone and laptop are charged. My car has plenty of gas. Not that I'm planning on going anywhere, but I can if I have to.

I'll check in if I can (if we don't lose power, that is). If we do lose power, I'll try to check in on Twitter with my phone.

I hope all my friends in the path of Irene stay safe and dry. Heck, we've lived through tornadoes and earthquakes just in the past few weeks! We'll make it through this. :)
