winter catches up with us at last
Feb. 6th, 2016 07:20 amAfter the weirdly warm days earlier in the week, we had a surprise! snowstorm on Friday. It wasn't in the forecast until later in the day on Thursday. It didn't even start until around six yesterday morning, but by the time I left for work, there was already a couple of inches and it was starting to stick to the roads. Which hadn't been plowed yet. It was a hairy drive into work, but I had to admit it did look pretty. This is what it looked like when I got to the office:

It continued to snow, heavily at times, all morning and into the afternoon. By the time I got out at 3:30 (I get out early most Fridays), it had tapered off, leaving several inches of heavy, wet snow to clean off my car. As I was doing so, the parking lot plow driver came by and plowed out as much as he could from behind my car, and then got out of the truck and shoveled the rest. What an awesome plow driver.
The roads were in much better shape by then, so the drive home was less scary. Honestly, my biggest worry was how I was going to get into my driveway. Fortunately, there wasn't too big of a plow hump, but since there was a car right behind me, I couldn't back in so I just plowed in, slid to a stop, and there I stayed.
Of course, then I had to shovel off the stairs to get to my apartment.( snow pictures! )
My downstairs neighbors, who volunteered and are much younger than I am, used the snowblower to clear out the end of the driveway. I didn't feel guilty at all for not helping. I should bake them some cookies or something, though. *g*
They're saying we might get more snow early next week. I hope it's not as much as this storm, though. I really don't want a repeat of last year, with storm after storm dumping so much snow we ran out of places to put it all.
But for today, I'm going to enjoy the spectacle. It sure is pretty.
