sadness

I just found out that the owner of our local New Age-Pagan-type store, who has been missing since last week, has been found dead. Very sad news. I have no details other than what's in the article, and the whole thing sounds very mysterious. I knew John, though not very well, and he was a really nice guy. He organized several events in Westfield, and even volunteered in an MDA event for which I was recruiting. He will be missed.

When I turned on the news this morning, their top story was about a huge fire in East Longmeadow, which is where I work. It was a retirement living complex which was almost completed (no one lived there yet, thank goodness), and it affected at least three of my coworkers in diverse ways: P had to cancel the ad they had placed with her for next week; it was going to be our front page story (it'll be a much different story now!); and the firefighter who broke his ankle is also our art director (the same guy we all played a joke on for his birthday last year). Like ripples on the water, altering courses in different directions!

My DSL connection popped out last night in the middle of a session, and I never got it back. It was still out this morning. The fact that it happened while I was online makes me suspect it's something on their end, and not my computer, but if it's still out tonight, I will try connecting on my old machine and see what happens. Very annoying, that.

Meanwhile, you lot have been very prolific! I'm catching up in dribs & drabs this morning. Lots of posts on the Lite-Brite terrorists in Boston, and on Molly Ivins. You know, I watched my local news this morning, and there was not one mention of her passing. They're a bit on the provincial side in these parts, but not nearly as bad as central & western NY, at least when I lived there. We're just close enough to a couple of major cities to not be completely a cow town, and just far enough that some of the reporters and weekend anchors are cross-eyed. Literally. It's also, apparently, where Boston weathermen go when their contracts don't get renewed. *g*
