Despite the heat, extreme traffic on the Pike, and computer problems, [livejournal.com profile] textiletart and [livejournal.com profile] ned_gasket's wedding ceremony finally happened yesterday, about two hours later than planned.

The ceremony was based on Indian traditions, as was the dress. D&G dressed in traditional Indian costume, and encouraged others to as well. It was a very colorful wedding.

The wedding was supposed to start at 3:30. Anyone who knows D&G knows that it's unrealistic to expect anything they do to be on time, but word came that the traffic on the Pike was really awful, so the decision was made to push it back an hour. Trays of appetizers and bottles of water were brought out, and most of us spent the time catching up with friends and trying to stay in the shade. It was hot.

Kathy and Melika provided wonderful music, which was appreciated by all, but especially by Zoe, who danced to it.

Word was that the ceremony had been lost on the computer, and they were frantically reconstructing it. Another delay. More appetizers appeared, and the crowd grew restless. Did I mention it was hot?

Finally, finally, the family lined up, and a car with the bride and groom ushered them to their places.

The family members and wedding party proceeded them to the pavilion.

Then a white path was rolled out for them to walk on.

It was strewn with orchids by a beautiful girl whose picture I failed to capture.

Partway through the ceremony, the sun & heat got to me, and I had to retreat to the rear, where there was still some shade. Carin blessedly had some Advil, which helped. I don't do well in the heat.

Food, beer, and good friends considerably boosted my mood after that. When the sun started going down, I found plenty of photographic opportunities.

This was my outfit, captured by Carin. Not exactly traditional Indian, but I think the skirt was made in India. *g*

The cake was lovely, draped in orchids.

As the sun dropped below the horizon, the pyramid at Azure Green and the pond looked especially nice.

I fizzled out at that point, and said my good-byes. It was so nice to see so many friends, and it was mostly fun. At least I didn't have to deal with the traffic, since I live where you'd get off the Pike to go there. It was definitely worth it to celebrate D&G's union.

I must be crazy, because I'm planning to be outside this afternoon for the 60th anniversary parade & celebration for Stanley Park. But how could I not go? It's one of my favorite places, and it's literally up the street from me. I will be seeking out shade and drinking lots of water. *g*
