the big chill

It was -1F this morning when I got up. It was 8F when I got to work. A bit chilly.
On the way in this morning, as the sun was coming up, the ice and frost was lit in shades of gold and bronze. There was fog, or mist, or maybe even exhaust in front of Wal-Mart, where there was a mist bow. Like a rainbow but shimmering in the mist. How I wish there had been a place to pull over and take a picture! On top of the Wal-Mart, there were 20 or so people shoveling snow off the roof (they were closed yesterday due to fears of the roof caving in).
The icicles above are outside my office window. I took the screen off so I could get a clear shot.
Things around the office are a bit subdued today; one of our co-publishers, Chris, is in the hospital after having surgery for bleeding on the brain. He had been in a snowboard accident a couple weeks ago, but it's unclear whether this is related. We're all pulling for him. He's my age.
To top things off, the phones keep going in and out today. On deadline day. Not good.
Oh, and snow at least three times in the next seven days. Crikey.
At least the sun is out today, making the snow sparkle. Pretty.
