the hole just keeps getting deeper

My car died on the way into work this morning. In the middle of a busy road. Nice man pushed it out of the street, and AAA towed me to my regular mechanic. I thought, and he agreed it was a possibility, that it could be from the huge puddles I went through yesterday. It seemed electrical in origin: warning lights on dashboard lighting up, radio flickering in and out, turn signals fading out when I hit the brakes. He looked at the belts and said they should be replaced, at least.
Then I waited for the call. It finally came just before I went on break. It's the alternator. Which is going to cost $395, which I don't have. They're going to let me pay in installments, thank goodness for businesses that reward loyalty. But it might not be done today, because they have to get the part. So I've procured a ride home if I need it, and one back in on Monday. I've also procured chocolate, which was even on sale. 'Cause there's no way I'm getting through this day without it. ;)
It's always something, isn't it?
*sigh*
