I've been mostly avoiding social media since Friday, because the world is just too hard to take in such concentration sometimes. Venting one's anguish on Facebook over the horrors committed by humans just makes me sadder and angrier, so I just avoided the place altogether. Instead, I went for a walk along the river, where I found leaves frosted with silver and lit with gold.

Today it is snowing, mostly lightly but occasionally in huge, fluffy flakes drifting around like milkweed fuzz. A blanket of calm in the midst of chaos. A good day to stay in and contemplate the quiet winter approaching.

I know what you mean about the social media. Either people were saying what I thought and felt or they were being total arseholes. The former made me sadder and the latter just enraged me. As there is nothing (as a British citizen) that I can do, I have avoided it as much as possible.

I just hope that if there is anything that my sensible American friends can do, eg sign petitions or lobby their politicians, they will do it. We had a similar shooting 16 years ago in the UK, but we have not had one since because the whole country was horrified and we took action to stop it happening again.

I just don't understand the unreasonable objections from the gun lobby. Why do people need access to such destructive weapons? Surely the deer aren't armed? It saddens me that they refuse to even listen to reason. Sigh.
