desert dreams
Apr. 11th, 2006 07:28 pmA while back, I was tooling around desert southwest websites (I think it was somewhere around my rabbit hole experience), and on a whim I sent for some travel brochures. The one from Arizona came today. It has a nice map, and a CD-Rom, and a lovely magazine-style visitor's guide. Sigh... I would so love to go to the desert. I don't know that I could live there, not being a fan of extreme heat, but I have always been fascinated by such climes. I think it originated while reading 1,001 Arabian Nights when I was a kid. My mother gave me an ancient, battered copy that she had found at a rummage sale or something, and I devoured it hungrily. There was magic in the desert. I just know I lived in Arabia in a past life! The tents, the carpets, the horses... I imagined myself a dark-haired princess, being rescued from a life in the harem by a handsome adventurer who took me along on his quest.
Someday, I will make it to the desert. For now, it remains a dream.
