There's an old church (with an old cemetery) in West Springfield that's on the corner of Elm Street and Witch Path, which has tickled my fancy for 5 years now. Since I was in West Springfield this morning, and it's a beautiful sunny day, I finally stopped there and snapped a bunch of pictures.

Some of the stones in the cemetery were very similar to the ones in the other old cemeteries around here, with the red stone and moon faces, willows and urns.

The church is now a recording studio. I'm glad someone bought it and is using it, instead of tearing it down like the fate of so many other old buildings. They've even fixed up the exterior.

I was in West Springfield for Vinnie's mom's funeral. It was in an interesting stone church with beautiful stained glass. It was really unusual in that when you entered, the altar was on the left side and the pews were arranged in a U around it. I've never seen a church set up like that before; all the ones I've been in before had the altar at the far end from the entrance, with the pews in even rows.

After the service, we all went to Storrowton Tavern, which is on the grounds of the Eastern States Exhibition (where they hold the Big E). The last time I was there was for an MDA event, back when I worked for them.

Vinnie's family is wonderful; they treated us as if we were family, too. We had some great conversation with some family friends from Atlanta, had a delicious brunch, and shared lots of hugs. Vinnie will be staying here for another couple of weeks, so I told him to call me anytime if he needs some respite (or even just lunch). For once, I'm the closest instead of the farthest away.
