trees down!
Originally uploaded by LizzieBelle Too.

Just after my last post, a big storm moved through the area. We were standing at the window in the office, watching the leaves blow off the trees. The rain was coming down in torrents. By 5:00, it was over, and the sun even peeked through a couple of times.

I finally got out around 5:30, and turned on the radio in my car. The station I usually listen to on the way home, WRNX, was silent. Hmmmm. I turned to the classic rock station, and they were talking about how part of the roof blew off the Holyoke Mall. Wow! WRNX is just down the street from the mall. I saw a tree down on Converse Street in Longmeadow, and just after that the DJ said the on ramp from the South End bridge was closed and people were being rerouted onto 91 N. As I reached the on ramp to the bridge, I saw the trees down across the highway and snapped this photo. A whole line of trees all down the ramp were laying across the roadway! Holy moly! So glad I don't have to go that way tomorrow.

The rest of the trip was uneventful, although there were leaves everywhere. When I got to Southwick, however, the stop lights (and almost all of the other lights, except, curiously, for the Mobil station) were out. Uh-oh. By the time I got to Westfield, however, the lights were on. OK, maybe I'll have electricity. It's getting dark by now. Then I got to the stoplight by the hospital, about a block from my house, and it was dark. Crap! My whole neighborhood was dark. I fretted about seeing my shows tonight, but the power came back on by 6:45. So, yay, I get to watch Doctor Who and Battlestar Galactica. And the food in my fridge won't go bad. *g*

I wondered how extensive the storm was. I was also listening to rnx on my way home and it went dead. Then I got home and saw big waves on my little pond and grabbed a camera just before we lost power too. I decided to make the best of it by lighting a candle and pouring a glass of wine. The sweetie isn't expected for dinner until well, any minute now so it was a nice reprieve for an hour. He called from 495 to say he heard the pike was a mess. He had no idea what was happening out here that's for sure.

I'm sure we'll see just how extensive it was on the news tomorrow. :)

Whew! I'm grateful that we didn't get that much of a storm today. Usually our town loses power at the drop of a hat (I'm knocking wood now). Tomorrow at sunrise I have to drive most of the way 495 for another shoot, so I hope the way is clear.

Tomorrow's weather is supposed to be nice. Good luck!

The sound of the wind in the trees is amazing. We lost power here for a short time this evening. We came home and all the clocks need re-set.

I wondered how far the storm travelled. It seemed like the one that happened on my birthday, and that one went all the way to RI.
