movies and tragedy
Aug. 8th, 2007 09:35 pmI finally got around to seeing L.A. Confidential, which turned out better than I thought it would be halfway through, but not as good as I'd been led to believe. Which is typical of films I see way after everyone else. I still don't understand why Kim Basinger got an Oscar, but then I don't understand how Halle Barry got one, either. *shrug*
I got disturbing news from two different fronts today. A friend from Brushwood called me up and, among other things, told me that someone we know got mauled by a dog last week. It was Don Waterhawk's daughter, Tia, for those of you who know her. She was breaking up a fight between her boyfriend's dog and another dog, and her b.f.'s dog, a pit bull, bit her in the face. She's a beautiful girl, and that's so tragic. Then, when she was trying to get some help, a neighbor (who is a former cop) refused because, he said, he thought it was a scam to get into his house. I can't even believe someone would even think that. All he had to do was look at her to know she needed an ambulance! I don't even know what to say. Poor Tia.
Then, a coworker told me that his wife's cousin was murdered by her husband, who was off his meds at the time. He stabbed her 120 times. That goes *way* beyond just wanting someone dead; that's really crazy. They're both understandably upset. It's got to be hard to work when you're thinking about that.
So, in retrospect, maybe L.A. Confidential wasn't the best viewing choice I could have made tonight. Sheesh.

Date: 2007-08-09 11:21 am (UTC)You had opened a small shop at the back of some health-food-type place. I went in, and the people working there said you were out. I was disappointed b/c you weren't there and I'd wanted to finally meet you in person.
Weird.
