Our good friend Walter has been presenting C.C. for many years now, originally in their apartment in Brighton and more recently in Lakshmi & Toby's barn. The movie he shared with us last night was part I of The Dark Secret of Harvest Home, the miniseries they showed almost thirty years ago on TV, starring Bette Davis. I have to admit that I watched it when it was on back then; our whole family watched it together. It's a lot worse than I remembered! The book is much better, as is usually the case, but add bad acting and terrible 70s production values to the equation, and you have the perfect ingredients for classic Conjure Cinema. The badder, the better! The point of C.C., actually, is to get together with friends and make fun of the movies. And the shorts Walter shows are always enjoyable. Last night, he showed several of the Oscar-nominated animation shorts. Which I'd already seen, but they were worth seeing again. Especially the one with the goldfish. *g*

I'm heading over to [livejournal.com profile] ami_1's place this afternoon to hang out and chill with her and [livejournal.com profile] spinningwheels. I'm trying to convert her to the cult of Harry Potter. She will be assimilated! Resistance is futile! I just finished reading #5. I'm picking up a lot of clues that I missed the first time 'round. I'm loving the characters even more, especially Luna. There are so many complex, complete characters! I am in awe of JK Rowling. Although she deserves a good long break, I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

convert her to the cult of Harry Potter.

I have been converted. Why did I think I could escape?

Luna definitely grows on you - what a great character! And I was very pleased with the casting in the last movie - Evanna Lynch was a good mix of freaky, yet appealing, with occasional hints that there's way more horsepower under the hood than you'd expect.

Apparently, she went to the producers and told them that no one else could play Luna. Good for her! She was good.
