into the woods

I went down to the wildlife sanctuary this afternoon, hoping to find more signs of spring. There was quite a lot of snow still in the woods, so it'll be a while longer before things start popping out of the ground.
Not a lot of folks out today, but I did see the requisite dogwalkers (one of whom was playing tug-of-war with her pit bull while talking on her cell phone). There was a lot of mud in addition to the ice & snow on the paths, but the ice was all gone from the river. I saw a couple of ducks resting on a rock in the river, just hanging out.
The weather kept alternating between sprinkles and looking like it was going to clear, then settled on light rain as I was heading up the path to the car. Good timing!
I have the corned beef on the stove, getting ready to feed me all week. My apartment smells so yummy!
As I was walking around, it occurred to me that this is the last weekend of winter. Yay!

Date: 2008-03-17 01:49 am (UTC)I picked up kosher corned beef for the weekend, and we also had stuffed cabbage. It's nothing like what my mom whips up, but it keeps the nostalgia at bay.
Every time I take a walk, it smells more and more like spring. We had a snow squall this morning, but it passed quickly.
