everybody loves a parade

I walked down to the Memorial Day parade in downtown Westfield this morning. It's a spectacular day out, perfect for a parade!
It had a small-town feel, and everyone clapped for the veterans, police, and fire department, as well as all the school bands, and even the local politicians.

And, of course, a fire truck bringing up the rear:

A couple of A10s from Barnes flew over a few times (I can still hear them now, as a matter of fact). It was a nice tribute to those who serve their country. Thanks, folks!

And there was always a picnic after on the grounds of some school or veterans' hall. One felt very American, and in the best way. Good times, good times.
There was a Memorial Day (I think) celebration here in NYC some years back, or maybe it was 4th of July (though I doubt I'd have gone out for that, because of July 3), when all manner of craft came flying up the Hudson River and I went across town to check it out. I really went to see the Stealth bomber, and it was the coolest thing EVER. Came up the river very slow, it seemed, all black and spooky-looking. Loved it.
