There's a nifty article about crows on the NY Times site. It seems that they're able to recognize individual humans!

Crows and their relatives — among them ravens, magpies and jays — are renowned for their intelligence and for their ability to flourish in human-dominated landscapes. That ability may have to do with cross-species social skills. In the Seattle area, where rapid suburban growth has attracted a thriving crow population, researchers have found that the birds can recognize individual human faces.

Neat!

My older brother had a crow when he a kid. It couldn't fly. But when he played baseball his crow would run around the bases with him. It was the coolest thing.

Wow, that is really cool! I love crows. Except when they wake me up at the crack of dawn on the weekend. ;)

I have heard that crows will choose certain houses or spots in neighborhoods that they'll congregate at on a regular basis. I always go to see them at their gathering spot in the fall, and say hello to them when they venture into our yard. Lots of people in Albany think they;re a nuisance; they even drive a truck with crow cawing sounds down the streets to drive them away! (at least I think that is what it's for)...

I love crows--for their intelligence and presence. We feed a lot of them around my house.

My mom had a lot of blue jays in her neighborhood a few years back, and they were very noisy, really raising a racket. Until some crows moved in. After that, the blue jays were still there, but they got very quiet and respectful.
