More snow today, but not very much, maybe 2". Roads were slick, but I took it slow and left lots of room in front of me, and I made it home without incident. Yay. Sounds like some of you UK folks got much more than we did this time! Now you know what my winter's been like. *g*

For the past couple of days, there's been a very large, and growing, puddle outside my door. This morning, it was larger than a semi, and 2 or 3 inches deep. The mother of all puddles. I was concerned about getting around it tonight, what with all this extra precipitation we've been having all day, but fortunately they managed to clear the drain, and the puddle is gone. Whew!

50 years ago today was the Day the Music Died. To people of my generation, we're more likely to think of Don McLean's "American Pie" when we hear that phrase than Buddy Holly. My parents weren't rock-n-rollers, although my dad did have a Big Bopper record on his jukebox (yes, he had a jukebox). So sad, all the promise that was snuffed out that night. One of my favorite Steeleye Span songs is their version of "Rave On."

hmm. but the difference *is*, you're more used to it than we are, so an inch of snow doesnt quite have the same effect for you as it does for us ...

... a work colleague gives me a lift into work every day (i walk home). normally it takes 10 mins to drive it. today it took her an hour (she dropped me off on the road nearby and i *still* took her an extra 20 minutes to reach the car park!). All because we can't drive in snow ... !!

in case you didn't see them, i have pictures of the snow here! (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=60593&l=eb6e7&id=651113774)

Very true! When I lived in Maryland (much farther south than here), everything closed down when it snowed.

My friend (full disclosure) Daily News writer David Hinckley has an awesome column on TDTMD: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/music/2009/02/03/2009-02-03_the_day_the_music_died_didnt_kill_music_.html?page=0

He does mostly TV commentary now, but he used to be the News's music critic (how we met: he did a big feature with me when "Days" came out). Great, great newspaperman and a really funny guy.

Oh, and my friends (again with the full disclosure) Steeleye! They loved doing that, being old rockerheads (at least Bob, Rick and Peter, anyway).

Nice article!

Ooh, you're friends with Steeleye? I've seen them twice, love love love them. I get Peter's newsletter, too. :)
