I went out for a walk this morning with no particular destination in mind. I started out by heading toward downtown, and discovered that there was some sort of craft show going on over at the town green (which is at the end of my street). There was a dance troupe performing over at the little stage they have set up for the Thursday concert series, but just as I'd gotten out my camera and had it warmed up, their music went kablooie. Oh, well. Many of the presenters were still setting up, so I kept walking, out East Main Street. I came across a sign on a closed shop that had me wanting some white-out, or perhaps a red pencil:
A couple of doors down, I spied a cat in the window. I wasn't sure at first if it was real (and alive), but it finally moved.
I crossed the Little River, a couple miles downstream from where I was the other day.
I walked past all the uninteresting shopping plazas, and crossed the Westfield River at the (relatively) new bridge on that side of town.
The Little River joins it somewhere between the bridges. Having gone about two miles at this point, I started heading back home, when my phone rang. It was my cousin Deanna, telling me that our cousin Jennifer's husband passed away from a heart attack yesterday. OMG was all I could say; Jennifer is 8 months pregnant. OMG. I can't even imagine what she's going through. Poor Jennifer. All my little problems suddenly seem pretty small.
Call somebody you love, and tell them so.

Date: 2009-09-07 11:15 pm (UTC)We lost a cousin a couple years ago. No sign of heart problems but dozed in a chair and never woke up. He was 40.
I am so sorry. Hugs..

Date: 2009-09-08 12:14 am (UTC)Deanna said he'd had earlier heart issues, with a bypass or something. I didn't know him very well, but Jennifer and I were close as kids, and have kept in touch. I feel so badly for her.
Hugs back!
