feed me, please, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

I came across this baby bird this afternoon, and when I bent down to take its picture, it opened its mouth expecting me to feed it. Poor little thing must have fallen out of its nest. I didn't see a nest, or any parents nearby, but there wasn't much I could do for it. I don't know what kind of bird it was, or what it eats. :(

How many lost or abandoned babies does this make now? A gosling, some bunnies, ducklings, and turtles. Well, the turtles weren't really abandoned; their mother lays the eggs and takes off. But still. Lots of baby animals this year.

I said a little prayer to Artemis, and hoped his mummy found him.

Poor little baby. Is it a blue jay?

I don't think so. It had yellow tail feathers, and I don't think bluejays have any yellow.

Waxwing maybe.

But probably not lost, it has enough feathers it probably ust fledged a little early. Unless mom and dad have met with demise, they are probably going to be back to feed it as soon as you were out of sight. He probably has a sib or two being much more circumspect about who they beg food off of.

Yes, a friend on Facebook (who is a veterinarian) said that he was probably a fledgling. That makes me feel better. :)

What a cute little thing! I hope his parents were nearby somewhere. They usually are.

You've photographed him beautifully.

Thank you! I'm really pleased with what this camera can do that my old one could not.

having had a recent experience with a 'lost' baby bird, i'd be willing to bet her parents were quite near, watching. here's hoping the little thing survived. (mine didn't.)

wonderful photos, however. so cute.

Amazing!

You do seem to trip over nature's waifs and strays, don't you??

So sweet. Loe the touch of yellow on his tail. I hope he makes it.
