I am the kind of person who enters every contest. Every one I see. On Facebook, Twitter, LJ, you name it. I've won a few books, and an iPod.

Today, I got an email from the marketing person at Little, Brown (yes, the publishers). It appears that I won this:

That's an iPad. Which I really, really wanted.

I also won this:

A signed copy, no less. I've already read it, but what the hey. I'll read it again.

Friends on FB are being all protective of me (thanks, guys!) and telling me to make sure it's legit. Well, I did enter the contest. I Googled the person who sent me the email (she's a marketing person at L,B, and I found her on LinkedIn), and the url of her email address (it took me to the publisher's website, where it tells me I "like" their FB page). So it looks pretty legit to me. *g*

All they want is a notarized affidavit of my name, address, and that I'm over 18. No SS#. And Elizabeth isn't my legal first name. So I'm not particularly worried.

So, SQUEEEEEEEEE!

Swan at Heritage Park, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

The park was so pretty this morning, I just had to stop and take pictures. Luckily for me, the swans were hanging out at water's edge, completely ignoring me as they preened. This shot was my favorite. I entered it in the Fall Photo Contest at the local daily paper. Wouldn't it be a hoot if it ended up on the front page of our competition? *g*

I also liked this one )

I've been quite busy today, which is good. New customers, happy old customers, and politicians ahoy. Fun, fun.

dusty, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

The weather dude promised a nice day today. He lied. It was warmer than it's been, yes, but it's been grey and dreary out all day, and it didn't even feel all that warm. 40 degrees should feel much warmer than this, in the middle of January. Hmph.

Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny, though, and I plan to take advantage of it. [livejournal.com profile] ami_1 is meeting me for lunch at the Tavern restaurant in Westfield, as she will be passing through, and I will probably walk down there.

Anyhoo, the drab day was not conducive to walking around with my camera, so I prowled the office in search of fodder. The dusty plant, above, is only alive due to my ministrations, so I've immortalized it.

contest musings )

Oh, and the landlord called me today and said that Roto Rooter was on the way. They think it's a blockage in the utility room. I hope they're right, that they get it fixed, and that I won't have a flooded bathroom when I get home. If I do, you will probably hear my scream from where you are. Even you guys in California.

OK, OK, you've convinced me to not give up. Also, I'm not totally nuts, but maybe I'm a bit of a brat. No, you didn't say that, or even imply it, but I probably am. Rejection stings, and I know as a writer that there's more rejection than acceptance, but this was a bit of a different situation. Also, I went out and took a picture that I thought was what they were looking for, based on past winners. Oh, well.

This month's theme is 'toys,' and I have no idea what to do for this one. I took a couple shots of my robot and Tigger figures that I have here in my cubicle, but I didn't love them. I have some stuffed animals at home; maybe I can come up with something interesting with them. The point is to stretch oneself, right?

I'm a bit bummed that my pic didn't make the final 50 for the November boston.com RAW contest. The theme was silhouettes, and I was rather proud of the pic I took to enter:

the day goes down in flames

Now take a look at the pix they chose for the final 50, and tell me that it's not just sour grapes. I really do think my pic is better than a lot of the ones they chose. Is it me? Am I just being a brat? Is my taste that different from theirs? They have a different judge each month, and they're all photo pros.

*sigh*

I think I'm giving up on entering this. It just hurts too much when they choose a pic taken in a car wash over my pretty tree.

This is the photo I wanted to take for the boston.com November contest. Isn't this a great tree?

I got the rest of today's pix up; you can see the rest of them here.

The October contest over at boston.com RAW is pink. The first photo of mine that came to my mind was this one from last November:

fitful

I like it because it shows something vibrant and alive surrounded by death, which suits the theme nicely (pink being the symbol of breast cancer awareness month). I hope the judge agrees. :)

I didn't enter last month, because I couldn't think of any of my photos that would fit, and I didn't get around to taking one (the theme was "labor"). Ah, well. My photo from August didn't make the final cut, which peeved me a bit because some of the ones that did seemed pretty pedestrian to me, but taste is subjective. None of the pix I voted for made the final three, either, which just goes to show that my taste differs from the majority of the people who are active on that site. Not sour grapes, just reality. ;)

Wish me luck!

I don't remember if I mentioned this here, but this photo of mine made the final 50 in the July RAW contest on boston.com. Squee! The theme is "Ripples," and I've always liked this photo so I was glad they had a theme that suited it.

You guys have always been very supportive of my hobby, and I appreciate that. If you care to, you can vote for my pic here on RAW.

Oh, and I got an email from the administrator there, telling me that someone wants to buy a print of it! :)
