the day after
Feb. 15th, 2007 03:30 pmThey didn't come to plow out our parking area until 4:30 yesterday afternoon! The snowblower crapped out, so they had to shovel out the walkways, too. That's what they get for waiting until then! Man. I had to go out and clear off/ move my car for the plow guy, and it wasn't too bad at that point. A lot of the snow/ sleet had blown off the car already.
My landlord was there pitching in, and he actually went to talk to my crazy neighbor to ask him to turn down his @#$%& music (I'm pretty sure he didn't phrase it like that), and lo & behold, he did! Let's hope it lasts. I would be so happy. (I'm beginning to understand why old people can get cranky...)
This morning, I went out extra early to make sure I had time to clean off my car, and have extra time in case the roads were still slick. Just as I was about to pull out, I turned on my wipers, and they got stuck in the 'up' position. Crikey! I got out and chipped away what ice I could see, and they still didn't move, so I thought it might be a fuse or something. I got out my manual, which was little or no help. I couldn't even find the fuse box (I gotta get down there and find it one of these days), so I decided to forge ahead and try driving to work like that. Fortunately, there wasn't much road spray, so I made it to work OK. I called my mechanic (who's around the corner from my office) and asked if I could bring it over; he said "Sure." I went out and started the car, and wouldn't you know it: the wipers worked just fine. They were frozen after all, and sitting in the sun for an hour freed them right up. Well, whew! I went back out at lunch, and cleared away every little bit of ice & snow that was anywhere near the wipers. Mamma mia.
Today was our soup & dessert feast at work, and boy, they weren't kidding! Several crock pots of soup steamed away, and many, many desserts were arrayed all over the place. I made my potato chip cookies, since they were such a hit at the cookie exchange. There were also brownies, mini whoopie pies, lava cakes, and those pretzel-chocolate kiss thingies. Yum! I'm thinking salad for dinner. It's probably a good thing that
ami_1 and I put off our dinner at Buon Appetito until next week! I might explode. *g*
I'm pretty much caught up now from being out yesterday. It's not a particularly busy week, so things didn't get backed up too badly. Mike has promised to show me the cool stuff he got at the toy show in NYC on Tuesday. He gets to do some fun stuff. :)
