The lovely October-like weather we've been having got even better today. Sunny and in the high 50's. Who knows how many more nice Saturdays there'll be until spring? So I headed over to the wildlife refuge and rambled about in the woods and around the pond.

By the pond, I was surprised to see dragonflies. In December! One flew right up to me, and landed on my chin. I think it was kissing me! I was so surprised, it never occurred to me to take out my phone and snap a picture until it was long gone. I was blessed by a dragonfly!

Golden sunshine caught silvery milkweed, lighting up the feathery seeds like faeries.

They were everywhere, caught on dried stalks and grasses.

It was a lovely afternoon's walk. I would not mind at all if the rest of winter was a nice as this.

Beautiful. I envy you your sunlight and your magical December dragonflies. A nice contrast to last year, and long may it continue!

Not that it's particularly wintry here either, just mild and endlessly grey.

Grey is wintry. Too many grey days, even if they're mild, get me down. I hope you see sunshine soon!

I saw a bunch of dragonflies last week at our local marsh.

Late fall is beautiful, in its own way.

It is. A stark beauty.
