The lovely October-like weather we've been having got even better today. Sunny and in the high 50's. Who knows how many more nice Saturdays there'll be until spring? So I headed over to the wildlife refuge and rambled about in the woods and around the pond.

By the pond, I was surprised to see dragonflies. In December! One flew right up to me, and landed on my chin. I think it was kissing me! I was so surprised, it never occurred to me to take out my phone and snap a picture until it was long gone. I was blessed by a dragonfly!

Golden sunshine caught silvery milkweed, lighting up the feathery seeds like faeries.

They were everywhere, caught on dried stalks and grasses.

It was a lovely afternoon's walk. I would not mind at all if the rest of winter was a nice as this.

I took today off as my birthday (it was Saturday) rather than Friday, thinking Monday would be slower at work, and it turned out to be a pretty nice day. I went over to Gates Pond for a walk, and found lots of dragonflies flitting about by the water. A couple of them even held still long enough for me to get a picture.

I've been seeing a few folks doing daily gratitude posts on Facebook, and thought my birthday month would be the perfect time to do that. I need to concentrate more on what I do have, rather than what I don't. From big to small, I'm giving thanks for all the good things in my life. It's something I need to remember, every day. I'll put the whole list up here at the end of the month. Here's an extra one for today, and just for my LJ buds: I'm thankful for all of you. You brighten up my day, every day.

This lamp is one of the few things I've ever asked my mom for and actually received. I just love dragonflies.

It's days like today that make me remember why I love September so much. Absolutely stellar day. And there's another one just like it coming tomorrow.

This dragonfly landed on my hand, but unfortunately, it was the hand holding the camera. The best I could do was catch him sitting on a rose leaf. Isn't he a pretty one?

I noticed as I was walking around the park that I haven't seen many butterflies this year. Has anyone else noticed that? It worries me.

Even though it's pretty chilly today, the sunshine and blue sky drew me out at lunchtime to walk in Heritage Park. The trees are mostly bare now, but a few leaves cling tenaciously to their branches, whispering in the breeze. The sky is a startling shade of turquoise, not quite captured in this pic. As I sat in the car thawing out, I watched the gulls wheeling around and around, waiting to dive in and steal morsels from the geese. It was a bit mesmerizing.

When I got back to work, there was a pretty red dragonfly hanging out on the building, by the stairs to the employee entrance. He deigned to sit still for a quick portrait.
