One thunderstorm just left Westfield, and according to the weather dude, another one is on its way. Woo! I love thunderstorms. Unfortunately, these storms will not relieve the muggies we've been having all day. Ugh. It's the kind of humidity that makes your skin feel like modeling clay the minute you walk out of the air conditioning. It got hot again, too. Well, it is summer. I shouldn't be too surprised.

I saw a lawn sprinkler going in the rain on the way home. Sheesh! Get a clue, people. Wastefulness is so twentieth century. There's a good article here on the Witches Voice about Pagans and environmentalism. I wrote the author, Lupa, to voice my agreement. I happened to mention that I just got back from a festival (where I saw rampant wastefulness), and she wrote back and asked if I had been at Sirius Rising. Turns out she was there, too! Small world. I had been thinking about writing an article for Witchvox much along those lines. I had to bite my tongue a few times at SR when I saw folks sitting in their running cars for the a/c, throwing away recyclable cans (OK, I actually called someone on that and she got mad at me), tossing cigarette butts on the ground, and many other really stupid things. It's really not that hard to be more environmentally friendly. No matter how gently you remind folks, some of them still get pissy about it. I am as unapologetic about environmentalism as I am about feminism; it's who I am, get over it. The problems aren't going away, and someone has to carry the torch. It may as well be me.

Well, you can see how easily I'll get up on a soapbox. *g*

I'm so glad it's Friday, and the workweek is over. New Monk on tonight! Then, I suspect, an early bedtime.

Too few people take care of the environment...even with the growing concern over global warming. People just don't take it seriously, and I can't understand it.

It's so easy to do something as simple as recycle. To throw trash/litter in the trash can instead of by the side of the road. To preserve water. To conserve electricity.

Why can't people learn?

Hmmm... and where are you that lightning storms are infreqent enough to be notable? I'll trade ya! I live in the lightning capital of the Western Hemisphere, and guess what is my biggest fear? Yep. Lightning TERRIFIES me!

I'm in western MA. They're not *that* infrequent, but I love them. :)

I'm right with you there on taking better care of the environment, hon!

Back when [livejournal.com profile] justjanus and I used to attend festivals (the last one being about 5 years ago), most of them were *very* proactive about getting people to be more responsible about their impact on the site, with numerous marked locations for cigarette butts and different types of recyclables or returnables to go. They tended to be smaller gatherings (no more than 300 people) and had daily "town meetings" where there would usually be reminders to use the receptacles, too. It was part of the culture, and hopefully still is at some gatherings!

Unfortunately, there's not recycling available at Brushwood. There used to be, but I think it was cost prohibitive for them. Still, I would've thought it would be automatic for Pagans; we do worship the Earth, after all!
