me, reflected, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

I'm not sure how it happened, but I turned fifty today. I could swear I just turned thirty, but there you go. Twenty years just flew by.

Actually, I'm rather glad to be out of my forties. That was not my best decade, by a long shot. Well, it really was my worst decade. Glad I got that out of the way. Now I can move on, and be fabulously fifty.

Of course, it helps that I don't look my age, and lord knows I don't act it. But I think my generation is much younger than my parents' generation at the same age. I'd like to think we're redefining aging. Or refusing to grow up, take your pick. *g*

I had thought of doing a few things today, but it was hot, and I didn't. I did go for a walk, and I found a bridge over the pond behind Grandmothers' Garden, where I took the above picture. And there was exactly one ripe blackberry, so I ate it. It pays to look under the leaves. :)

I might go out for ice cream later; there's a nice little ice cream place about a half-mile walk from here. The kind of place that has a sliding window on the outside, and they hand you a pile of napkins with your cone. I can sit looking down into the valley, and think about having made it to fifty. :)

first skunk cabbage, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

Look! More green things coming out of the ground! OK, it's skunk cabbage, but still. Green and growing. :)

In rising back up from bending down to take this picture, I pulled something in my ribcage. Ouch. Getting older really sucks sometimes. :P

That meme that's going around (as they do):

2011 - living by myself in a one-bedroom apartment in Westfield, MA
2001 - I lived in Roslindale with Pauletta, her two kitties, and her snake.
1991 - I lived in Quincy with Holly, and my kitty Robin.
1981 - Was at college, then moved back in with my parents that May.
1971 - Lived in Clifton Park, NY with my family.
1961 - In utero until August, then Deposit, NY.

So, yeah. Gonna be 50 this year. O_o How did that happen?

Has anyone clicked the "random journal" button at the top of the LJ page? I just hit it a few times, and I am struck by two things: there are a lot of Russians on LJ, and there are a lot of emo teenagers on LJ. The first one surprised me, and the second one didn't, but it made me roll my eyes nonetheless.

I suppose that if they'd had LJ when I was a teenager, mine would've been pretty emo, too. It seems to be the job of teens to be emo.

It reminded me, once again, how utterly bizarre it is to be on the other side of the generation gap. When did that happen? And why didn't I notice? Probably because I don't have kids, and it took a while for my friends' kids to get old enough to notice how completely different their generation is from mine.

Speaking of which, I noticed yesterday that Barack Obama is two days younger than I am (and now you know just how old I am). That made me pause for a second. We might have a President who is my age. Yeesh. Young for a President, but really old for a professional athlete. *g*
