triplets, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

I went out into the woods this morning, where I found lots of fungi, and evidence of Irene's passage.

water, water, everywhere )

I couldn't get over to the path along the river at all. Every way over there was blocked by normally dry streambeds or wrecked bridges.

There was evidence of mud on the grass way over by the hawthorn tree, which is quite far from any stream. It must have been quite a flood.

I'm sad about the bridge. Last time it got wrecked by a flood, it took them two or three years to get it fixed.

Once the water goes down, I'll be able to get over to the river path again. Just not in the usual way.

high water

barely, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

All of the rain from the past couple of days, combined with already high water, has resulted in flooding down at the park. While it's not as bad as it is in Rhode Island, it's nearly as high as it was the last time it flooded, in December '08.

drying out

After bailing out and mopping up three times, the third after a shower (it kept coming back), my bathroom seems to be flood-free now. Please let it stay that way!

Perhaps I need to make a sacrifice to Poseidon? ;)

My bathroom is flooding again. The difference this time, though, is that I noticed it just as it was starting, and threw down a towel at the door to keep it from spreading to the hall and kitchen. So far, so good. I did a little bailing and called the landlord. Cross your fingers it gets taken care of right away!

The problem seems to be a propensity for the drain on the street to get clogged. You'd think that, after so many problems, they'd do something to fix it. Alas, they have not. :(

At least I got the rug and trash basket out of there before they got ruined.

And I know that this is absolutely nothing compared to what they're suffering in Haiti. As if things weren't already bad there. I'm thinking of my former coworker, Yvette, who was from Haiti, and praying for her family and country. I am humbled and amazed at the huge number of posts pouring in from everywhere about how to help. Facebook, Twitter, and LJ are so much more than places to post silly memes.

I did take a picture today )

I'm going to do some more bailing, and hope to have a dry bathroom in time to get to bed tonight. Wish me luck!
