Canada lily, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

[livejournal.com profile] asakiyume tells me this is Canada lily. It's quite lovely, and reminds me a lot of trout lily, which is much smaller. It grows in some of the same places, too.

It turned out to be much more muggy than I expected today, so I was pretty wiped out after a long walk. It felt good to be moving though; I spent way too much time sitting yesterday. First at the meet & greet, which was well-attended, and we had actual magickal conversations for a change (which was the original point); then in the car, driving to Grafton to pick up [livejournal.com profile] firespirit1's tent that she generously lent me for camp; and then at Conjure Cinema, where Evil Uncle Walter showed us several fun movies including the one from the original Trilogy of Terror in which Karen Black is terrorized by an evil idol. I remember watching that on TV when it was on the first time, and talking about it for days afterward. He even had a replica of the idol, which has glow-in-the-dark teeth and eyes. O_o

In addition to the tent, I also arranged a ride to & from camp (with Jim's cousin Dave), and a food plan (with Lakshmi). Go me. All I have to do now is figure out how I'm going to pay for it. I guess it really is time to sell dad's old camera, and a few other things too. *sigh*

In two weeks, I'll be there!

It's another beautiful September day, and there are plans afoot for fun. This afternoon, I'm heading down to Hartford for Pipes in the Valley, a free Celtic music festival on the riverbank. Should be a good time. My friend Helen is meeting me there, and The Wicked Tinkers are playing again. Even though Jay isn't with them anymore, it'll be good to see & hear them; they're good guys, and good musicians.

After that, I'm heading up to Hudson for Conjure Cinema to see Something Wicked This Way Comes. I haven't seen it since it was fairly new.

I should get off the computer now and hit the shower! Lots to do before I leave. Have a wonderful Saturday, all!

Amelia in repose, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

A fun time was had at Conjure Cinema last night. Walter told me that he had an announcement that involved me, but wouldn't tell me what it was. When we were all gathered upstairs for the film, he made me stand up, and announced that he finally has a blog! I've been telling him for years that he needs to do this, so I was quite pleased. He had written a series of articles many years ago for Harvest magazine (remember that, [livejournal.com profile] morvenwestfield?), and he is such a repository for classic horror film knowledge, I knew he should share it with the world. Yay!

I stayed overnight, not getting to bed until after one (I know! Me!) so I slept until nearly eight this morning. Everyone was, of course, still in bed, so I took off for Holliston to have breakfast with [livejournal.com profile] ami_1. I took the wrong exit off I-495, thinking I knew better because it was route 126, and of course got lost. I ended up in Rhode Island, as a matter of fact. Oh well, I had a nice tour of Bellingham. *g* I finally found the place, and had a nice visit with S and her lovely kitty, Amelia (who is pictured above).

I ran into a little traffic on the way home, which is why I like to get going early, but it wasn't too bad. Added maybe ten or fifteen minutes to my trip. Most of those programmable signs on the Pike (the ones that usually say "Construction ahead - expect delays") said "Thanks, Ted, from the people of Massachusetts." Made me smile.

I noticed a small carnival in Westfield on the way home, and decided that it would make a nice afternoon walk to go check it out, so I changed into something lighter (it was cold last night!) and walked down there. I got some nice pictures of the new bridge, which opened to traffic last week, and some good classic car shots, but the carnival was pretty lame. Just a few cheesy rides, and a very small midway. Mostly little kids with their parents. I'll probably do a post or two on my photo blog when I feel more up to it, but in the meantime you can see my pix here.

I've been lazy this morning (big surprise): tooling around online, chatting with a friend, sipping herbal tea, and generally putting off doing housework. I did manage to take out the trash, so, go me. *g*

I watched Ted Kennedy's funeral on the telly, and had tears from his sons' eulogies, and a few smiles too at their recollections. Yo-yo Ma was wonderful, as always. I remember seeing him play with the Philadelphia Orchestra at Saratoga: my aunt & uncle couldn't stay for the concert that evening, so my dad's friend Bill (DePasquale, who is in the Orchestra) got us into the closed rehearsal. The musicians tapped their music stands with their bows as he entered, and they 'clapped' by drumming their feet after he played. They really respected him. That evening, he came outside backstage and talked with all the summer music students, completely humble and down-to-earth. He's as wonderful a human being as he is a musician.

After taking out the trash, I noticed a neighborhood regular sitting in my living room window.

I see her around a lot, and she's quite friendly. I think she lives with one of my neighbors, which ticks me off a bit because we're not supposed to have pets, but whatever. She's a sweet kitty. I'm sure she's doing her best to keep down the squirrel population in these parts. *g*

Tonight is Conjure Cinema, and Evil Uncle Walter has a real rarity for us this time: The Magician, based on the book by W. Somerset Maugham and supposedly based on Aleister Crowley. Should be a treat.

Now, I must steel myself to do some cleaning. Much as I hate it, it must be done. What are you all up to this rainy weekend?

Last night was another Conjure Cinema offering in Hudson; this time, it was a Mexican movie called, I think, "The Witch's Mirror." It was in black & white, with subtitles, and really quite bad (bad movies are kind of the point of Conjure Cinema, did I mention that?), so I found myself nodding off about three-quarters through. I went downstairs to go to the bathroom, and didn't go back. I hear all the bad guys died.

The shorts before the movie were interesting; one was so bizarre, nobody quite got it. It was a Canadian animation that had been nominated for an Oscar, called Madame Tutli-Putli. It was quite spooky, especially the eyes of the main character. The animation was really good, but the story was the strangest thing I've ever seen.

My friend Fran gave me a leopard-print set of a nightie, camisole, and tap pants. I don't have to buy leopard print anymore - people give things to me because they think of it as my signature. I guess that's better than Lakshmi's signature cow print! Serves her right for naming her cat "Moo." *g*

I had met my friend Cymbri in Sturbridge, where I left my car at the Park & Ride (which turns out to be in the parking lot of a Lutheran Church) to save gas. It was nice not to have to drive the whole way alone, and to spend time with her. We stayed overnight, which was a good thing because James was making some cocktail that she was enjoying quite a bit. We had midnight Chinese food again, which was yummy. We all went to bed way, way late.

I was up early as usual, and I went for a walk around Hudson, where I found these ducks looking for a handout. I disappointed them, but it was nicely picturesque. I got to reminisce about central NY with a friend from Syracuse when I got back, and then we hit the road. There was quite a lot of traffic for a Sunday morning! It was all backed up at the 291 exit; too early for the Big E, so I don't know what it was for.

I think a nap is in order now. *yawn*

Conjure Cinema last night was great fun. Walter showed a 1972 TV movie directed by Steven Spielberg; Something Evil, I think it was called. Starred Darren McGavin. It was cheesy, but not too bad for what it was. After the movie, we had a little going away party for a friend who is going off to California for grad school after the festival. There was dancing and cake, and late-night Chinese food. I went to bed waaaaaaay past my usual bedtime, and of course I was awake at seven this morning.

Since I knew it would be hours before anyone else would be up, I headed for mom's. It was quite foggy (and cool! The weather report said hot, so of course I had only sleeveless clothing with me. Brrrr), but there was very little traffic. Mom made me breakfast, and then my sis & niece came over to hang out for a while. Mom loaded me up with yummy food, and I hit the road.

None of the promised rain so far, but it is getting darker out there. Perhaps I can get in a load of laundry before it begins?
