I am one of those lucky people who had to work today. Just about the only good part of working on a holiday is the commute - no school buses, fewer cars. Otherwise, it's just a long, slow day because most people think you're closed.

At least there were no bitchy readers or people carted away in ambulances today.

A big thank you to all veterans out there, both past and present. My dad was in the Navy, and most of my uncles served in the Army, some of them in various wars. They were all proud to serve their country. It's because of people like them that we are free.

23 years ago today, I moved to Massachusetts. Almost half my life ago. Sometimes it feels like I've been here forever, and sometimes it feels like it can't possibly have been that long.

This is what one does when much of the world thinks your business is closed for the holiday. Well, it's what one does when one is me.

For those of you who do not live in Massachusetts, the holiday is Patriots Day. Or, is it Patriot's Day? I don't really know. It has something to do with Paul Revere and Lexington & Concord, or something like that. It's also the day they run the Boston Marathon. Most businesses are open; I imagine that the ones that are not are just using any old excuse to close. *g*

The first call I got this morning was a woman asking if we were open. I told her that I would not be here if we were not. Later on, someone walked in the door and asked if we were open. I told her that she would not be in here if we were not. Sheesh!

So anyway, I was looking at all my daffodil pix, and thought, wouldn't that make a pretty mosaic? and went ahead and made one.

I also printed out a couple of my wildflower pix from yesterday to brighten up my cubicle.

I have actually tried to do some work today, but apparently a lot of my customers have taken the day off. They're probably watching the baseball game, or maybe the marathon. In any case, they're not answering their phones.

Now my thoughts are heading toward dinner, and what the heck I'm going to make for it.

My mind tends to ramble when I'm bored, can you tell? *g*

I went up to Noho today to visit my friend Kat, who had surgery recently, and got to meet her fiancé to boot. It was fun catching up with her. I also got some kitty love from her two furry beasts. Since I was in the 'hood anyway, I headed over to Trader Joe's afterward and got some nummy cheese and other goodies. I'm planning on making crab cakes for this evening's repast, and I have mojito mixer. Woo! I live such the exciting life. *g*

It'll be strange not to be with my honeys for New Year's Eve, but I'm glad I'm not travelling again this weekend. They're still calling for ice and torrential rain tomorrow. A good day to stay home and get stuff done. Or sleep. *g*

If you're celebrating the arbitrary turning of the calendar tonight, have fun and stay safe!

I framed my photos this morning (they look so cool all framed and professional!), and Kitti & Liz took them over for me with theirs at lunchtime. The exhibit opens on January 10th, with the gala reception on the 25th. Any other locals who want to go, let me know!

I'm here by myself for the rest of the afternoon. I do believe I am the only one on this side of the building, even. Which is good and bad. Bad because it's boring, but good because I can pretty much do whatever I want, as long as the phone gets answered. The only real work I have to do is proof my ads, which is almost done. And wait for the classifieds.

I've decided to stay home for New Year's Eve; Ogunquit is a really long drive, and the weather is going to be iffy at best on Monday (sorry, James! I'll make it up to ya). I'm thinking of making crab cakes, and watching movies. Exciting, I know. I'll probably fall asleep before midnight. *g*

I haven't posted fun spam subject lines for a while, so here are a few I received this week:
repudiation innovator
my alphabetica
platoon meticulous
not proserpine is manhood
piggy bank orgasm

Ooh! Classifieds are here. Time to do some actual work. :)

Got an email from Lakshmi saying that they're not hosting New Year's Eve this year. Boo hoo! I'm hoping that someone steps up to the plate and offers to host it this year ([livejournal.com profile] coyotegrrrl18, I'm looking at you!); if I had the space, I would do it myself. It's one of my favorite holiday traditions.

The day went by fairly quickly today; I was pretty busy all afternoon, which is good. That's a rare thing this time of year. Lots of new ads!

The rain ended this afternoon, and it was all foggy for the drive home. Christmas lights through fog are extra pretty! It was freakishly warm again, and they're expecting to break the record high tomorrow. Crikey, it's hard to get into the holiday spirit with weather like this!
