Today is the longest day, the Summer Solstice. I went down to the river early this morning, before it started getting hot, to celebrate the return of summer.

I didn't do anything particular to celebrate the Solstice, except for going for a nice long walk around Gates Pond to chill out amongst the trees and birds. I hadn't slept very well the night before, due to a combination of a rumbly tummy (was it something I ate? Maybe) and anxiety rearing its ugly head once again. Walking in the woods always makes me feel better about things.

A few of us gathered last night to share food and drink and music, and it was a balm for my soul. Friends always help, too.

Today, I was up much too early, but things looked a little clearer, and possible solutions to troubles presented themselves. Anxiety has been beaten back with a whip and a chair, and is now grumbling in the corner.

I can do this.

I have the feeling that it's going to be a long afternoon. The person who usually lays out the classifieds is out, as is the person who is the usual backup. I'm hoping that the person who is laying them out doesn't wait until the last minute, so that we have time to fix things if need be. *fingers crossed* I really don't want to be hanging out way past 5:00, waiting for them to be done.

I went and did errands on my break, then sat in the park to read for a bit. I had to stop, because my eyelids were suddenly very heavy, and I was afraid I was going to fall asleep. I had one good night's sleep this week, but the rest have not been great. I'm starting to feel run-down, and that's not good. I'm thinking that I might have to stay home tomorrow night instead of heading out to the coven Midsummer, which I'd like to go to, but I also don't want to run myself into the ground.

Perhaps I'll just do a little private ritual, maybe at the park with the spirits of the trees, instead. I find that rather appealing. Midsummer is a time of faery magick, and I think the local sprites have been woefully neglected. I try to leave them little gifts (chocolate, whisky fudge, the occasional cookie) and let them know they're not forgotten.

And, hopefully, I'll get some sleep tonight. With all the faery magick abounding, that's not assured at all.

Happy Summer Solstice/ Midsummer/ Litha to all! Today is the longest day of the year (and, of course, the shortest night). I think a little Kipling is in order:

Oh, do not tell the priest our plight
for he would call it sin
but we've been out in the woods all night
a conjuring summer in

And a beautiful first day of summer it is, too. :)
